Living Liturgy: Part 4
Christ is risen! Alleluia! As we live into the liturgy of Easter, here are some ways to guide us to pray with our bodies at home as we practice living resurrection:
  • This week Praying in Color! Grab a hand full of color: crayons, colored pencils or markers and a piece of paper. Let each colors represent a different feeling. Notice what is on your heart and mind. Draw a heart in the middle of the page and in the heart write a word or two to describe the feeling or thought. You can write difficult or happy feelings in your heart because they are already there. 1. Think about what troubles your heart, who is touched by that trouble? Write their name and draw a heart or another shape around their name and decorate it as you think about them and what you want for them in your coloring prayer. Draw a line back to your first heart to connect them. Keep adding names and coloring around them, connecting them to your first heart. 2. Think about what comforts or gives you joy. What are you grateful for? Write that and draw a heart around it. Decorate it joyfully! Who are the people who bring you joy or who you want to share joy with? Write those names on your page and decorate with shapes and squiggles and connect them to this heart. Doodle your way through the prayer until it feels complete. You can’t do it wrong. In the mix of all that troubles you and give you joy, may God meet you there and give you peace.
  • We can practice trusting in a generous God to meet our needs in an abundant creation as we give to others! Practice generosity by extending yourself to meet the needs of others. Giving a phone call or sending a card to someone is a way to act generously by sharing who you are and who that person is for you. You could participate in the Beacon Rally for Home by just showing up on line demonstrating you want to participate and shape a generous community where all people have a home. There are other examples in this newsletter of how you can practice generosity. What other ways can you be generous? Enjoy exploring the possibilities and notice how God meets your generous spirit as you do!
SPARK News
The Spark lesson for Sunday, April 19, is on Doubting Thomas. Thomas doubted the other disciples had really seen Jesus risen from the dead. He wanted proof. Jesus gave him more than proof; Thomas got experience. Jesus came to Thomas in the midst of his doubt. Thomas experienced the crucified and risen Jesus in the midst of the gathered community of disciples. Jesus gives us experiences in faith community as well; experiences that transform our doubt into trusting in God’s presence with us!

Beacon Rally for Home (From Home!)
Thursday, April 16 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

If the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us anything, it is how crucial it is to have a place to call home so that we can “shelter in place”. Also, our own health and well-being is integrally tied to the health and well-being of everyone in our community. Home is a basic structure that effects health in community. We who are healthy and housed can act boldly today while building toward tomorrow to support everyone in our communities having a place to call home.

Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative is a group of committed staff and volunteers working to end homelessness. The proposed development of Prairie Point in Shakopee is a way to serve families experiencing homelessness in Scott and Carver County by creating 50 homes with onsite support services for families. This online rally will be an informative and important preparation for your participation in Beacon’s newest family supportive housing. O ur elected officials want to see and hear from you! They will follow our lead in creating community that will "point the way home", for families experiencing homelessness! This rally will be groundwork for the Shakopee Planning Commission Vote scheduled for Thursday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. Register here  for these events! Instructions for how to access this virtual meeting will come in your registration confirmation email.

Crown of Glory is a partner with Beacon and is forming a Beacon Leadership Team as an expression of our faith and love toward our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Contact Pastor Reggie , Pastor Laura or Gretchen Pierskalla to learn ways to be part of this movement.
Here are a couple ways you can support families experiencing homelessness in Scott and Carver county through Beacon’s Families Moving Forward program:
  • Health and hygiene supplies for families: We’re running low on things like diapers and personal care items. We’ve created a registry so that those who are able to can purchase items that will be delivered to our program center. Please share this link with others who might be interested.
  • Masks: For sewers able to make cloth masks, our shelter guests, staff and residents need them. The CDC has information about masks and a couple tutorials for making them. Masks can be shipped to or dropped off at our program centers on Mondays and Wednesdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
