Notes from Tom Paulson
I remember being a Sunday school student, and hearing the story about Jesus and the women at the well – John 4:5-29, and thinking it was a weird story. But I see things a little differently now. This story is not so much about Jesus, but about the woman. Look closely. Jesus loves her just as she is, and too much to leave her there. She is, in the words of Chaka Khan ‘every woman’, or more accurately, every person. She is you and me, beloved and broken. And while Jesus loves us just the way we are, Jesus also loves us too much to leave us that way.

When you have five minutes, listen to this on YouTube.

It is the spiritual “Jesus Met the Woman at the Well.” I’ve always wanted to sing this with a choir but could never find this arrangement sung by Chanticleer. It is remarkable for its incredible energy, sheer joy, over-the-top improvisation and musical precision.

In these times of chaos, social distancing, and deep uncertainly, it is reassuring to know
  1. That God’s love is for every person.
  2. God’s love has seen us (and our ancestors) through in the past.
  3. God’s love promises to see us through this and the future.
  4. And that we can see, feel, hear, and experience God’s love in story, song and (especially) each other.

So keep on listening, praying, singing and caring for each other. Then think about this story and the relationship between Jesus and the woman. Today you may be the woman at the well, but tomorrow you may need to be Jesus at the well for someone else.

Children's Ministry
Living Liturgy: Part 1
“Liturgy” means “the work of the people”. It is not just for pastors and good singers to perform. Liturgy is for all of us together and can be done anywhere!
Here is an idea to try at home:
  • Create a Lego prayer station. Once it is set up, use it anytime.
  • If you don’t have Legos, you might have duct tape. Or any kind of tape! Take 6 inches of tape off the role. Notice the stickiness. What is sticking to you? Prayerfully bring that to mind and place it in the stickiness. Fold the tape in half (sticky side in), hold it in your hands. Its OK if the edges don’t line up. Life is like that too. Notice the smooth and the rough texture of the prayers and give them to God. Place it near a cross in your home as a visual reminder of what you have given to God. Go in Peace.
Its Spring Break, so no “official” SPARK Lesson this week. Pastor Reggie will be preaching on Ezekiel 37 ~ the prophet Ezekiel encounters God in a valley of Dry Bones! Take an opportunity to move your bones~ go for a walk outside and breath the fresh air, invite wonder as you walk, look for something that gives you delight. Notice it and share with others what delights you discovered on your walk! Your body is a gift from God to delight in and enjoy creation. Even in the midst of a pandemic! Create a poster or message board with all your delights and God sightings!
