Dear Crusader alumni,
I hope you and your families are enjoying the last days of summer and back-to-school season! Even after 45 years at Helias Catholic High School (plus four as a student), I can tell you the feeling of a new school year never gets old.
This fall in particular, there’s even more reason for excitement as work has officially begun on our Spirit of Excellence project to complete the Helias Catholic campus. Even as I type this note, bulldozers outside are making way for the fully finished home of future generations of Crusaders!
Homecoming is only a month away, and I’m sure many of you are looking forward to parade floats and reunions with your class. We’ll have many more opportunities to welcome Crusader alumni home this fall, including our upcoming softball and soccer alumni games (see more information below). A special event where I’d love to see many of you is the September 13 Crusader football game, during which we’ll recognize Helias Catholic’s first ever state championship football team and our All-American football alumni.
Whatever may bring you to campus, please know we’re always ready to welcome you home to Helias Catholic.

Construction site work has officially begun on the Spirit of Excellence project to complete the Helias Catholic campus! We're looking forward to seeing Rackers Fieldhouse expanded in 2025 and the performing arts center and baseball and softball complex in 2026!

Meet up with your classmates and alumni from all classes of Crusaders immediately after the Homecoming football game!
The Crusader football team will face Capital City High School in Helias Catholic's Homecoming game at 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 27, at Ray Hentges Stadium in the Crusader Athletic Complex. Immediately after the game ends, head over to Last Flight Brewing Company.
The Pizza Kwik Food Truck will be there, and Last Flight will have beer on tap and other beverages available for purchase.

Under the Friday night lights on September 13 at Ray Hentges Stadium, the Helias Catholic community will celebrate Crusader football’s legacy of excellence, recognizing our All-American football alumni and the 40th anniversary of the Crusaders’ first ever state football championship in 1984.
We will recognize the 1984 Crusader football team before kickoff, and during halftime we will once again cheer for All-Americans #7 Paul Kaiser, #10 Ted LePage, #22 Jon Staggers, #23 Ron Adrian, #34 George Heisler, #34 Chris Hentges, #44 Craig Lammers, #58 Leon DeLassus, #62 Tom Bacon, #63 Joe Vanderfeltz, #71 Mike Shimmens, #83 Hale Hentges, #88 Mike Hentges, and #90 Vita Calvaruso.

Helias Catholic softball alumni from all class years are invited to join the alumni softball game on Saturday, October 5, at Legion Field.
Arrive starting at 6:30 p.m., with first pitch at 7:00 p.m.

Celebrating 25 years of Crusader soccer! | |
Save the date for Saturday, October 19, at De La Salle Soccer Field!
Plans are being made for a Crusader soccer 25th anniversary celebration and alumni game after the regular-season game that day. The varsity game should start around 1:00 p.m. with celebration to follow.

The Crusader Class of 2004 will have its 20-year reunion Friday, September 6, 2024, from 6:00-10:00 p.m. at the Side Bar, 305 Ash St. in Jefferson City. There will be a tour of the renovated Helias Catholic High School from 5:00-6:00 p.m. for those interested. RSVP is requested by July 30 using the form linked here. | |

Helias Catholic welcomed students back to school this month, celebrating our first school Mass of the year together on the Feast of the Assumption; and our St. Pius X Chapel has been packed with students who have chosen to celebrate daily Mass as part of a dedicated weekly time in our school schedule for spiritual opportunities. | |

Helias Catholic science instructor Dr. Collin Mayhan received the O’Neill Award from the Notre Dame Club of Central Missouri for exemplifying the Notre Dame values of accountability, teamwork, integrity, leadership in excellence, and leadership in mission.
Dr. Mayhan has been a member of Helias Catholic’s faculty since 2014, teaching chemistry and physics. Over the past two years he has led Helias Catholic’s chemistry independent research program in partnership with the University of Missouri and the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy.
Under Dr. Mayhan’s mentorship, four students have presented undergraduate-level research at the national conference of the American Chemistry Society.

Pam (Schaefer) Kramer '84 was selected as the chief executive officer for KC2026, the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Kansas City.
