The 2013-14 Crusher Cheerleading Squad captured 4th place at the UCA National Championships in Orlando, Florida. Prior to entering the championships, the cheerleaders participated in the World Showcase and were named World Champions.

The girls also captured first Place in the medium varsity category at the P.I.A.A. Competitive Spirit Championships in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Congratulations to Coach Dr. John Walker and the Varsity Cheerleaders on their many accomplishments!

Basketball Playoff Update

The Crusher Boys' Basketball Team completed the regular season with a 15-6 record overall and a 13-3 record in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference (LHAC).

The Crushers clinched the Section 2 title and will face Bishop Carroll for the LHAC Championship on Saturday night at Richland High School (8:00 pm). The District 6 Network will be broadcasting the LHAC Championship game live. You can watch the game from your computer by visiting the following link: Live Coverage

Additionally, the boys qualified for District VI "AA" playoffs as a 6th seed and will play Central Cambria (#11) in the first round on Tuesday, February 18th at Richland High School (7:30 pm)

The Crusher Girls' Basketball Team completed the regular season with a 17-5 record overall and a 12-4 record in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference (LHAC).

The girls qualified for District VI "AA" as a 4th seed and earned a bye in the first round. The Lady Crushers will play the winner of Bellwood-Antis (#5) and Mount Union (#12). Check the athletic site for details on round two pairings.

Trexler Chases History
Nemo Trexler, a four-year letter winner on the Crusher Boys' Basketball Team, currently has 1,558 career points. Trexler needs 46 points to surpass Paul Deibert '85 (1,603 pts.) as the school's All-Time Leading Scorer.

Nemo is also in the hunt for breaking several other school records. He is currently #2 - Field Goals Made (Career), #3 - Rebounds Made (Career), and #6 - Free Throws Made (Career).

Keep a close eye on the Crusher Basketball Team as Nemo attempts to make history and lead the team on a playoff run.

On Saturday, February 1st, Coach Murphy and the Varsity Boys' Basketball Team welcomed back former Crusher players and coaches for Alumni Appreciation Night. The alumni received special Crusher Pride t-shirts and were treated to refreshments in the newly re-opened Crusher Skybox. A great time was had by all as the Crushers defeated Johnstown, 42-39.

Two members of the Bishop McCort High School football team have announced their intentions to continue their careers at the collegiate level next fall.

 

Christian Roman has

announced his intentions to continue his football career on an athletic scholarship at Millersville University. The Millersville Marauders are a member of the PSAC East division and are led by second year head coach Greg Breitbach. 

 

Tyler Rugg has announced his intentions to continue his football career at Shippensburg University on athletic scholarship to play for the Red Raiders and head coach Mark Maciejewski. In 2013, Shippensburg University finished with an impressive 7-4 record in the highly competitive PSAC East Division.

Swim Team - Season Complete 
The Bishop McCort Boys' and Girls' Swim Teams both ended their seasons last month. Unfortunately, the final meet of the season was cancelled due to inclement weather. Several swimmers will compete in Districts; however, the information is not yet ready to post. Continue to check the athletic web site and Crusher social media for more information.

The Varsity Crusher Hockey Team will travel to Deer Lakes on Monday, February 17th. Face off
is set for 7:10 pm at the Ice Connection of Pittsburgh, Valencia.




Dan Formica, Noah Sakmar, Connor Bunn, and Boston Bradley were named named PIHL Class A Hockey All-Stars.


Michael P. Patcher Jr. Memorial Tournament

Michael P. Patcher Jr.
The 10th Annual Michael P. Patcher Jr. Memorial Junior High Basketball Tournament will be held this weekend at Bishop McCort.

Mike Patcher began his basketball career by leading St. Joseph's School to the Pennsylvania State Parochial Basketball Championship. St. Joseph's Elementary is the only team from our Diocese to ever win a state championship.

In 1965-66 season, Patcher led the Bishop McCort Crimson Crushers to the PCIAA State Championship. The Crushers beat the PIAA champion, Schenley High School, on their way to a historic 28-2 season.

Mike was also a three-year starter at the University of Pittsburgh, where he led the Panthers in rebounding for two consecutive seasons.

Monogram Club
The Bishop McCort Monogram Club is the all-inclusive booster organization for alumni, parents, and fans to support BMCHS Athletics. The Monogram Club is an expansion of the 12th Man Club that was created in 1983 to support the football program. The Monogram Club allows alumni, parents, and fans to support all Bishop McCort Catholic High School athletic programs and the marching band.  Monogram Club

Players will have a chance to do some of the same drills that helped lead the Crushers to the 2012 State Title and District VI Championships in 2012 and 2013. In the past three seasons, the Crushers have compiled a 64-11 record, have had 7 players named to the All-State team, and have had 9 players move on to play in college.

The Bishop McCort Softball Team will be holding a Pre-season Clinic. The goal of the clinic is to help prospects improve their skills and to get ready for their upcoming season. Players have the opportunity to work with the current Crusher roster and coaching staff. 


Denny Altimore
Denny Altimore (1947-2014)
The Bishop McCort community is saddened to learn about the passing of Denny Altimore ('65). Mr. Altimore was McCort's head baseball coach from 2003-2010. He also was the radio voice of Crusher athletics for many years and the commissioner of the Johnstown AAABA League. Please keep Denny's soul and the Altimore family in your prayers during this difficult time.
