Paper - High-resolution Single-particle Cryo-EM of Samples Vitrified in Boiling Nitrogen
Image Source: Thorne, et al. (2021). High-resolution single-particle cryo-EM of samples vitrified in boiling nitrogen. IUCrJ, volume 8, Part 6 https://doi.org/10.1107/S2052252521008095
A paper at IUCrJ by Robert E. Thorne, et al., demonstrates how "single-particle cryo-EM samples on commercial grids can be routinely vitrified using only boiling nitrogen and obtain apoferritin datasets and refined structures with 2.65 Å resolution."

This avoids the use of ethane, propane or ethane/propane mixtures as liquid cryogens. By using liquid nitrogen as the primary coolant, this "may allow manual and automated workflows to be simplified and may reduce sample stresses that contribute to beam-induced motion."
NANUQTM Advanced Cryocooling Device
Our NANUQTM Advanced Cryocooling device was used to plunge cool samples as part of the research mentioned in the above paper.

NANUQTM is designed to replace hand plunging of crystals, and was repurposed in the above paper for use in cryo-EM sample preparation.
Paper - Michaelis-like Complex of SARS-CoV-2 Main Protease Visualized by Room Temperature X-ray Crystallography
From a paper at IUCrJ by Daniel W. Kneller, et al., read about how the SARS-CoV-2 main protease and substrate complex were captured by room-temperature X-ray crystallography.
New Product - Thermal Shipper For Room Temperature Crystallography Samples
The thermal shipper is a reusable temperature controlled shipping container used to safely transport room temperature crystallography samples in a controlled environment. Designed to hold up to six SSRL-in-situ crystallization plates securely at 20 (=5 / -5) degrees Celsius for up to 168 hours.

Upcoming Events
At MiTeGen, we sponsor numerous events, conferences, workshops and symposiums throughout the year. These events include fields such as structural biology, crystallography, cryo-EM, beamline research and more. We believe in supporting researchers and our industry. Listed below are two upcoming events you might find interesting.
The Annual Buffalo-Hamilton-Toronto (BHT) Crystallography-CryoEM Symposium is November 5th. Format is virtual. Features new and innovative techniques in X-ray crystallography and cryoEM, and provides a venue for showcasing the achievements of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. We are sponsoring this event.
The 6th Annual Southern California Cryo-Electron Microscopy Symposium is October 29th. Format is virtual. Brings together electron microscopists for talks and poster sessions on studying the fundamental mechanisms of biological systems. We are sponsoring and giving a talk at this event.
Looking For More Events, Workshops and Conferences
If you are looking for more events visit our events page. It lists conferences, workshops, symposiums, user meetings and more.

Topics include structural biology, material science, crystallography, cryo-EM, beamline research and more.
