Charter Oak Staff Member, Alum and Student
Crystal Glasscock is a long-time staff member at Charter Oak State College. She and her sister, Tunisia, are both COSC Alums and members of our Acorns in Action volunteer network.
Sadly, their mother Diane passed away from ovarian cancer in March of 2019. There was little support in the Greater Hartford area for ovarian cancers, so the sisters created Diane’s Helping Hands.
Their mission is to raise awareness of ovarian cancer – a rare form of cancer which has no symptoms in its early stages. In addition, they offer comfort to cancer patients by providing a variety of helpful items. COVID may have altered how they provide hope and comfort ~ but it has not stopped them.
Since March of 2020, they have sent edible arrangements to caregivers, encouraging cards to convalescent homes, dropped off activity kits to infusion centers, and mailed their cancer comfort/ chemo kits to patients that include an assortment of journals, encouraging notes, candy, masks, Chapstick, hand gel, no-sew blanket, earrings, and a women’s empowerment CD.
In addition to giving back to others, Diane's Helping Hands is helping her family and friends heal and remain close to Diane by doing what she loved best – helping others.
