Upcoming News and Events for Feb. 10 - Feb. 14, 2020
Monday, Feb. 10 - 100th DAY OF SCHOOL
This month’s character trait is EMPATHY AND UNDERSTANDING
February Principal's Message
Happy February! The school year continues to fly past at a frenetic pace and so too do the accomplishments and activities at Chaparral Elementary School. Author and Philosopher Henry David Thoreau noted, “It is not enough to be busy. So are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?” At Chaparral we are busy with quality teaching and learning, connected to a myriad of instructional experiences, aimed at deepening and broadening our students’ understanding of topics and character traits needed to be happy and successful people. continued...
The Great Kindness Challenge
Chaparral proudly participated in the Great Kindness Challenge during the week of February 28 - 31. This week was dedicated to creating a culture of kindness and compassion on school campuses worldwide. The number one rule at Chaparral is to be kind. Kindness is one of the Character Traits we study every year. Each day at morning announcements, a kindness challenge is read aloud to all students and all CUBS are encouraged to complete the challenge. This week was a great way to revisit the trait and to celebrate the kindness we see every day. At school and at home, CUBS worked to complete as many acts of kindness as they could during the week. One special act of kindness was making get-well cards for Children’s Hospital LA. Our students made over 300 cards for the patients in the hospital. Go CUBS!
Chaparral Family Hoedown

The Chaparral PFC Family Hoedown was a rousing success thanks to our two fabulous Dance Chairs – Jessica Larson and Julia Santiago. These two ladies transformed the A.C. Stelle MPR and outdoor eating area into a Western Town. They, and their volunteers, served up some tasty BBQ food from Rib Ranch as well as popcorn and cotton candy. Inside, partygoers played giant lawn games, danced with their friends and family to the lively DJ (thank you H2H Entertainment), and took pictures at the photobooth (thank you Strike-a-Pose Photo Box). A huge thank you to Jessica and Julia, two full time working moms - your creativity, hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication made Chaparral PFC’s first Family Hoedown a favorite event amongst our parents and students. We are all so thankful and appreciative of you two and your crew of volunteers!

We need an accompanist for Cub Choir!
Chaparral 4th and 5th graders need a pianist who can handle light accompaniment duties for the Cub Choir. We meet on Fridays at lunch from 12:45pm until 1:15pm.

None of the music is difficult. If you would like to see some examples of the kind of music we are learning, stop by the music room (room 20) on a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Don't forget to check into the Main Office first.

In addition to rehearsals, there will be some short performances later in the year. Dates are not set yet, but we'll have them soon.

Please consider joining our talented and enthusiastic group of singers to help us make our Cub Choir a huge success.
