The Spirit of the Lord is Upon Us!

By Field Director David Moreno in Cuba

Jesus answered, “It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone'".

Luke 4:4 (NIV)

In the month of September, the National Executive Committee toured several churches located in the Province of Pinar del Río, Cuba. We were able to see that despite the general crisis that our country is currently experiencing, suffering long hours without electricity, do not have water, and the shortage of food and material needs; churches are experiencing constant growth. The places where people congregate are already small for the number of people who arrive at each meeting center and sometimes there is no more space to sit them. We thank the Lord Jesus Christ because we can experience his constant mercy and see the revival that the Holy Spirit is causing in Cuba. In the midst of all the need that people have, more people are accepting Christ in their lives. Many of them have been baptized in water after making the decision to follow Him.

Here in Cuba people are so hungry for God that they seek and worship Him anywhere. Worship occurs not only in chuch buildings but also on the streets, in homes, and in backyards.

When children and the elderly come to church and are far away, someone picks them up to go to church. Basically, anyone can get transportation if necessary, but it is mainly for older people who can't walk far and for the safety of children. The means of transportation here is different from what people outside our country are used to. When there's a will there is a way!

The following are the churches visited by the national committee and pastors who oversees them.

Church in Palizada (Darien and Rosabel Cabrera)

Church in Corojo (Carlos and Marisel Hernández)

Church in El Chorrito (Giraldo and Felicia García)

Church in Peraza (Gerardo Barreto and Yaimara)

Church in San Juán y Martínez (Lázaro and Maribel Hernández)

Church in the City of Pinar del Río I (David and Alina Pérez)

Church in Pinar del Río II (Kenny and Yelenys Hernández)

These churches are made up of humble and simple people but with passion and love for God.

Mission Esperanza (Hope), the newest outreach of Global Missions, is a partnership of the MOVE Director of Construction Dave Bethany and MOVE National Director Aaron Keller. Mission Esperanza has been invited by the National Leadership of the Open Bible Churches of Cuba to hold the Western Region Pastors Conference and a Church Building Seminar on October 10-12. They are planning for approximately 350 pastors and church leaders to attend. Global Missions Executive Director Vince McCarty accompanied Dave and Aaron in the scout trip to Cuba that helped launch this new ministry. Mission Esperanza’s ministry opportunities are the culmination of more than ten years of prayer and seeking the Lord’s will for ministry in Cuba. The needs in Cuba are vast and unfathomable. Please pray for the conference and construction teams as they prepare for ministry there.

"If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them. Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need."

Deuteronomy 15:7-8 (NIV)

The country of Cuba has and is going through very difficult times. People here do not have much to eat and the stores are mostly out of goods. Basic things that we need that are not in stores are sold in the black market for unaffordable prices for us.

We praise God and thank all of you who have been praying for our country. A container for Cuba arrived at the end of September. We greatly appreciate everyone who donated the funds for the purchase of food and other essential items and those who donated for the shipping of the container. A special thank you to Pastors Karl and Dyrie Francis and Living Word Open Bible Church who allowed the container to be loaded on their church property and to all their volunteers who helped load the container. Our pastors and people in Cuba are very grateful for this tremendous help that will be of great help to them.

Thank you for your prayers and donations. May the Lord bless you abundantly!

These are just a few of the families that have been blessed by your donations and prayers.
