As summer comes to a close and our children return to school, I'd like to remind you of Cuba Township's upcoming Fall Festival. The annual family festival is set for Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 1 PM to 4 PM.
This year's festival includes live music featuring Barrington's School of Rock and a food truck, Mario's Cart, featuring tacos, churros, and quesadillas! In addition, our traditional petting zoo, face painter, balloon artist, and kids' games and prizes are scheduled. I hope you and your family can join us.
Cuba Township is set to repave the front driveway and repair sidewalks beginning Wednesday, August 18 thru Thursday, August 26. To ensure the public's safety, the office will be closed to the public during the construction. Staff will continue to work in the office and will be accessible by phone or email.
Our office continues to process passports in record numbers. Passport processing times are extended to 12 weeks for expedited processing and 18 weeks for regular processing. To check the status of your passport, click here. Passport appointments are required - call 847-381-1924 to schedule an appointment. Passport services will be unavailable from Wednesday, August 11 to Thursday, August 26.
The Township Office is open to the public. Office hours are 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday-Friday. Appointments are still required for Passports, social services, and property exemptions.

Cuba Township partners with Lake County to offer Federal Emergency Rental Assistance (FERA)
Cuba Township is partnering with Lake County's Federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program (FERA). Click here for eligibility requirements and online applications for renters and landlords.
Food Pantry
The Tuesday food pantry continues as an indoor pantry, by appointment only, from 10 AM to 3 PM. If you need food assistance, please email info@cubatwpil.gov or call 847-381-1924. The food pantry will be closed Tuesday, August 24, 2021, due to paving of the driveway and sidewalk repairs.

Deputy Assessors in the Field
Deputy Assessors are in the field updating exterior photos and taking measurements for recent additions, pools, patios, and home sales for 2018-2021 permits and sales. Remember, improvements automatically receive a 4-year Home Improvement Exemption.
August 16 is the Last Day for Cuba Township Residents to Appeal Assessments
The 2021 blue assessment notices arrived in resident mailboxes on July 15. To verify the most accurate property characteristics, visit IMSLake.org, and follow these easy steps:
- Agree to the Site Disclaimer
- Enter your 10-digit Property Index Number (PIN) and click “Search”
- Review the Land Data, Physical Characteristics, and Living Area for accuracy.
- Call the Cuba Township Assessor’s Office at 847-381-1120 if you find discrepancies.
Check the blue assessment notice's Homestead Exemptions field to make sure you are receiving exemptions you are eligible for. See 2021 Exemptions below.
Property owners can speak one-on-one with Assessor Tonigan or her deputies to review assessment notices, learn how to use the new IMSLake.org property search portal and County E-filing system.

2021 Exemptions
General Homestead Exemption (GHE) Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption (SCHE)
If you purchased a residence in Cuba Township in 2020 and it is your primary residence, you are eligible for the General Homestead Exemption (GHE). Likewise, If you are 65 years of age or older or turning 65 this year, you are eligible for the Senior Citizens Homestead Exemption (SCHE).
Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption (SCAFHE)
Homeowners that are 65 years old or older, with an income of $65,000 or less, are eligible for the Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze. If you received the Freeze in 2020, remember to file your 2021 Senior Freeze before the end of October.
Disabled Person or Disabled Veterans Homestead Exemption

Mulch
Contact Rebecca at the Road District to make arrangements for mulch delivery. Each load is 6-8 yards. The mulch is a double ground mixture of hard and softwoods from removed Cuba Township trees. Email Rebecca at rebecca@cubaroads.org or call 847-381-7793.
New Driveway Alert for Unincorporated Homeowners
If you are a homeowner in unincorporated Lake County and planning to put in a new driveway over an existing culvert, please contact the Cuba Township Road District to inspect the culvert.

The Annual Fall Shred Event is set for Saturday, October 23, 9 AM - 1 PM. or until the truck is full. Please use paper grocery bags. There is a limit of 4 bags per household.

Township-wide fall brush pick-up set for the week of October 25. Please have brush piles no larger than 10'x4' with limbs no larger than 8" in diameter. Brush must be placed at the end of your driveway by 7 AM on October 25. It will take the road district all week to pick up brush for the entire township and they DO NO circle back if your pile isn't ready by 7 AM on Monday, October 25.
The Cuba Township Road District operates 24/7 during inclement weather. You can call us if the matter concerns falling trees blocking roads, etc. Please contact your utility company for power outages.

APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED for Household Chemical Waste Events located at their Gurnee Facility. Collections are for residential waste only.
Items you can bring include: CFL bulbs, unwanted prescription, over-the-counter medicines and supplements (people and pet), household cleaners, gasoline, garden chemicals, pesticides, oil-based paints (NO LATEX) and varnishes, as well as other chemicals. Bacoa is a great local resource for Cuba Township residents.
In September, they are offering a three-part "When I'm 64" series to help participants make informed decisions about Medicare and retirement issues. Sessions will include:
Monday, September 13: The Basics of Medicare. Speaker: Susan Grossinger, senior services coordinator and SHIP counselor at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
Monday, September 20: Medicare Supplements. Speaker: Nancy Eckers, Medicare supplement agent.
Monday, September 27: Prescription drug plans. Speakers: Sue McNamara and Diane Von Hansen, Bacoa social service and SHIP counselors.
All programs are from 7-8:30 PM, via Zoom; participants can register for one or all three free sessions.
