Season’s Greetings from Cuba Township! The holiday season is upon us and the giving season remains in full swing. We’d like to recognize those who have continued supporting our food pantry and our community. In one remarkable example, The Blue Heron delivered homecooked meals on Thanksgiving Day and Project Hope provided Thanksgiving Dinner vouchers from Jewel - over 20 families benefited from one of the two amazing options. We continue to admire how our dedicated food pantry volunteers organize the collection, stocking, and distribution of food on a weekly basis. It is impressive to witness. Many of you have stepped up and generously donated to Barrington Giving Day – we filled our box up at least twice already. Thank you for your generosity and support.
With the recent news of the passing of longtime Senator and World War II veteran, Robert Dole, we remember the anniversary of the events of December 7, 1941, in Pearl Harbor. Over 2,400 service members and civilians were killed during the Japanese attack, which permanently sank two US Navy battleships and destroyed 188 aircraft. You can watch the 80th commemoration ceremony on the Pearl Harbor National Memorial Facebook page. In honor of Senator Dole, the flag will fly at half-staff thru December 9th. Thank you to the Greatest Generation who preserved our freedoms.
Those freedoms include our right to religiously celebrate this season. Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, is concluding, and I think we can all agree that a little bit of light can dispel a lot of darkness. As many of us vigorously venture around town to purchase, wrap, and deliver Christmas gifts for others, let us not forget the value of the gift of ourselves to each other. The Little Drummer Boy offered just himself and his drum to the king.
We recognize many of you may be gathering this holiday season for the first time in quite some time. On behalf of all of us at Cuba Township, we wish you a happy and healthy holiday season and a joyous new year. See you in 2022!
