If you or your representative filed an appeal of your 2019 property assessment, you are able to track the progress by visiting Board of Review Hearing Schedule.

Hearings for Cuba Township begin on December 20th with letter hearings. You or your representative can expect notification (via mail and email) from the Lake County Board of Review approximately two weeks before the scheduled hearing.

The last day to file an appraisal as evidence for your appeal was Monday, December 9, 2019, according to the Lake County Board of Review Rules, "An appraisal which does not accompany an initial application is acceptable to the Board, if it is received by the Board within fourteen (14) calendar days of the filing deadline for residential properties or within thirty (30) calendar days of the filing deadline for commercial properties."

The Assessor's Office staff spoke to hundreds of property owners during the 30-day appeal filing period. Staff made adjustments to nearly 200 properties, at the request of residents providing evidence for reduction or corrections.

Lake County Board of Review hearings continue through December, January and possibly February.

Please remember, if you are 65 years of age or older, you are eligible for the Senior Citizen's Homestead Exemption.

Check out our Tax Relief link for other available exemptions. Exemptions may be filed within our office. Just bring a valid Illinois Driver's License or State ID. When you are applying for a new exemption and the property is held in trust, we must verify the applicant is a beneficiary of that trust. The exemptions cannot be applied without this verification. Please include a copy of that part of the actual trust agreement stating that the applicant is a beneficiary. This is usually found on the first few pages of the trust.

We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,
Rebecca M. Tonigan, CIAO
Highway Commissioner Thomas J Podgorski

  • Please check your mailbox posts for stability. Rotted or wobbly posts will not be replaced if the force of the snow knocks them over.
