Hello Cuba Township - we have a lot of ground to cover this month so let’s get right to it and talk some sports. Congratulations to Barrington’s own, Lukas Van Ness, for being selected 13th overall in this year’s NFL draft by some team I’ve never heard of named the Green Bay Packers. Way to go, Hercules!
It was very recently brought to my attention that a 3rd generation trainer from North Barrington, Larry Rivelli, has a contender in the Kentucky Derby in Two Phil’s. Larry, we will be rooting for Two Phil’s this weekend and it’s fun to have a horse in the race…
We have renewed our preparations for the Independence Day celebratory 5k/10K race known as the Land We Love Run through the beautiful Village of Barrington Hills. The race will take place on Saturday, July 1, and begins at the Cuba Township office. The race proceeds will be donated to Folds of Honor. Folds of Honor provides scholarships to family members of fallen and disabled service members. You can sign up for the race through the Village of Barrington Hills website.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 1 in 20 US adults experiences a serious mental illness, and 17% of youth between the ages of 6-17 experience a mental health disorder. Please visit www.nami.org to learn more and how to make an impact on someone’s life.
Memorial Day is May 29th. Our office will be closed as we honor those who sacrificed while serving our country so admirably. Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day and originated after the Civil War. It became an official federal holiday in 1971. Let’s be sure to remember that Memorial Day is not just the unofficial beginning of summer.
I had the great fortune to celebrate a milestone birthday with my mother last month on Easter [no, Mom, I won’t mention the number…]. I want to wish all mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, godmothers, and aunts out there a Happy Mother’s Day. You are greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Chris Karam
