The world seems to be either on fire or under water. The devastation throughout the Southeast is jaw dropping and breathtaking. The Red Cross and Samaritan’s Purse are just two of many organizations seeking support for our fellow Americans. Please pray for peace in the Middle East as we approach the 1-year mark since this war began. Much like the War in Ukraine, bad actors with bad intentions are plenty capable of making catastrophic choices impacting the geopolitical landscape.

Thank you to everyone who attended our annual Fall Festival on Saturday September 21^st. A good time was had by all listening to live music and watching the impressive K9 demonstration while enjoying woodfired pizza and ice cream. We enjoy bringing the community together, breaking bread, and hearing what’s on your mind. Our electronics recycling and shredding event was another “sold out” success that same morning and we will continue to offer a diverse set of environmentally friendly services.

Brush pickup begins Monday October 7^th. Our Road District will be picking up brush throughout the Cuba Township service areas including unincorporated Cuba Township, and the Village of Barrington, Barrington Hills (only from the Metra tracks south to County Line Road and from Ridge Road east to Old Hart Road), Lake Barrington, North Barrington and Tower Lakes. Properties located on IDOT roads including Routes 59, 22 and 14 and Lake County DOT roads, including Roberts, Miller, Kelsey and River Roads are not included for our employees’ and motorists’ safety and well-being.

Early voting begins October 21^st. Make sure you exercise your right to vote at a dedicated time between 10/21 – 11/2. Please visit the Lake County Voter Power site for Registered Voters to check your polling location as well as a sample ballot. You may also register to vote at an early voting location or your assigned election-day voting site. You may still register to vote online at https://ova.elections.il.gov until 11:59 PM on 10/20/24.

Come cheer on the Barrington Broncos this month as the fall sports wind down to their final weeks. The Broncos football team has two remaining home games on 10/10 and 10/18 and I know many BHS teams will be entering the playoff season. I’m sensing some good Broncos and Fillies costumes for Halloween…

Cuba Township residents in need may be eligible for various programs, including utility assistance, such as LIHEAP and Nicor Sharing (beginning in the fall), emergency assistance, and food pantry programs. Please visit our website for a complete list of assistance services.

Passport Services

Passport Applications: Passport processing takes 2-3 weeks for expedited processing and 6-8 weeks for standard processing. Expedited processing is an additional $60 per passport. Passport appointments are required - call 847-381-1924 to schedule an appointment. To check the status of your passport, click here.

Visit Travel.state.gov's renewal page if you want to renew an adult passport.

Food Pantry

The Tuesday food pantry continues weekly, by appointment only, from 10 AM to 1 PM. If you need food assistance, please email info@cubatwpil.gov or call 847-381-1924.



Below is a list of needed items:

• 32 oz bottles of liquid laundry detergent
• Canned chicken, salmon, spam, and tuna
• Canned meals including chili (mild), stew, and pork & beans

Visit the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Online Portal for Reduced Fare and Ride Free Customers

The RTA'S Fare Programs Online is a web-based online customer portal that allows residents with disabilities and seniors to apply for, replace, and renew Reduced Fare and Ride Free Permits. It's quick and easy to use - go to Fares.RTAChicago.org.

Metra Access Pilot Program

Metra Access is a pilot program running through July 31, 2025, providing a reduced fare on all Metra lines and zones for individuals enrolled in the SNAP program who live within the RTA six-county region (Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties). To apply, you will need a SNAP eligibility letter, a government-issued ID, and a 2" photo of yourself. You may apply at Fares.RTAChicago.org.

Cuba and Barrington Township PACE Service

The Pace program is subsidized by Cuba and Barrington Townships, as well as the Villages of Barrington, Lake Barrington, North Barrington, South Barrington, and Tower Lakes.

The service is available to seniors and disabled persons, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM. The fares are $2.00 each way. Advanced reservations required. Call 1-800-451-4599, Monday - Friday, from 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM.

For additional assistance, call Pace customer service at 800-606-1282, option 2.

Ride Lake County - PACE Service

Seniors aged 60+ and people with disabilities interested in using Ride Lake County are encouraged to register by calling the Pace Call Center at 1-800-201-6446.

Registering early for Ride Lake County will allow riders to schedule trips. Seniors must provide their date of birth at registration, and individuals with disabilities must provide their RTA Reduced Fare Permit number at registration. Learn more

The Cuba Township Road District operates 24/7 during inclement weather. You may call us if the matter concerns falling trees blocking roads. Please get in touch with your utility company for power outages.

Week-Long Brush Pickup Set for Monday, October 7, 2024, Beginning at 7:00 AM

Have your neatly stacked pile of brush placed by the street no later than 7AM on Monday, October 7.

We will be picking up brush throughout the Cuba Township service areas including unincorporated Cuba Township, and the Village of Barrington, Barrington Hills (only from the Metra tracks south to County Line Road and from Ridge Road east to Old Hart Road), Lake Barrington, North Barrington and Tower Lakes.

Properties located on IDOT roads including Routes 59, 22, and 14, and Lake County DOT roads, including Roberts, Miller, Kelsey, and River Roads are not included for our employees' and motorists' safety and well-being.

The guidelines are as follows:

• The diameter of branches needs to be less than 8".
• The pile should be no wider than 10" (looking at it from the street), 4' high, and 5' deep.
• No root balls, stumps, decorative grasses, leaves or yard waste.
• If the brush pile exceeds this guideline, the remaining branches WILL NOT be picked up.
• There will be no further brush pick-up for the remainder of the year.

Mulch Madness!

Mulch is now available for delivery to Cuba Township residents ONLY, for a delivery charge of $125.00 per truckload. Mulch is delivered on Fridays from 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM. Each load is 6-8 yards. The mulch is a double-ground mixture of hard and softwoods from removed Cuba Township trees. Email Sue at info@cubaroads.org or call 847-381-7793 to schedule your delivery.

Self-Serve Mulch

Self-serve mulch is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The mulch pile is next to the textile recycling bin in the same lot as the road salt.

Mailbox Check

Be sure to check your mailbox post before the snow begins. Most mailboxes knocked over during a snow event are commonly due to weak bases.

Firewood Fridays Return in November

November dates are Friday, November 1 and November 15. Pick-up begins at 7:30 AM and ends at 2:30 PM or sooner if supply runs out. Firewood pick-up is subject to cancellation due to weather conditions. If you are not registered, contact Sue at 847-381-7793 and register your name and address.

Driveway Alert for Unincorporated Homeowners

If you are a homeowner in unincorporated Lake County and planning to put in a new driveway over an existing culvert, contact the Cuba Township Road District to inspect the culvert.

Instruction for Trees or Limbs Touching Utility Lines or Power Outages

If you have issues with trees or limbs touching utility lines, contact the utility company directly. The Township cannot trim trees or limbs within 10 feet of utility lines.

If trees are blocking the road, dial 911.
