ONT's Impressive Run of 40 Consecutive Months of Year-Over-Year Growth Among Summer Highlights

Passenger volume at Ontario International Airport (ONT) climbed to a new record in June, topping 652,000 and eclipsing the previous record of 618,000 set just one month before - marking 40 consecutive months of year-over-year growth.

The June count of 652,729, which was 16.7% higher than the same month last year, was the most in a single month since ONT’s transition to local ownership in 2016. The airport is nearing its all-time passenger record of 693,000 set in August 2007.

During the first half of the year, ONT drew more than 3.3 million passengers overall, an increase of 11.1% compared with the same period in 2023. The number of domestic passengers increased 9.8% to more than 3 million while the number of international fliers was 32.2% higher.

In July, Avelo Airlines announced it will begin exclusive nonstop service to Sonoma County from ONT beginning on October 10, twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays. Sonoma County is home to more than 425 wineries, towering redwoods, 55 miles of rugged Pacific coastline and small towns that comprise one of California’s most popular vacation spots.

Rounding out summer news thus far, ONT announced that travelers can now enroll or renew their membership in TSA PreCheck in either of their two terminals through CLEAR, an authorized TSA PreCheck enrollment provider. The process takes just minutes and can be done so on the lower level of Terminal 2 or 4.

Omnitrans Transit App Upgraded with OmniRide Fare Option, Progress on West Valley Connector Project

If you haven't downloaded Omnitrans' Transit App, now is a great time to do so as the app has been upgraded to include OmniRide microtransit to its mobile fares. Use the Transit app as your one-stop shop to pay for any service Omnitrans offers – all in the palm of your hand. If you are in Chino/Chino Hills, Upland, & Bloomington, OmniRide can pick you up and drop you off in the city’s service area, much like Uber or Lyft service. When booking your trip, the app guides you to the closest “virtual stop” for pick-up, typically a nearby intersection. An OmniRide vehicle will arrive within 15 minutes for pick-up and proceed to another virtual stop, which will be another location close to your requested drop-off point. To learn more about OmniRide, click here.

In other Omnitrans-related news, SBCTA is making good progress on construction activities for the West Valley Connector Project. On August 6, motorists traveling on Holt Boulevard between Central and Mountain Avenue will experience new traffic patterns. Crews will switch traffic south to create protected work zone along westbound Holt Boulevard. For the latest construction news, click here
