Patient Satisfaction Tip of the Week
Tip #19: Cultural Competency in Health Care
Diversity makes Los Angeles County great. But it also presents challenges for anyone serving multiple communities, especially in health care.

Make sure you’re prepared to interact with a diverse base of patients with different cultural norms, beliefs and practices. This means being informed about communication styles what potentially could be perceived as offensive, and what could facilitate a positive patient relationship.

L.A. Care has a Provider Toolkit for Serving Diverse Populations to help you, covering topics such as encounter tips, identifying literacy problems and legal mandates.

Also, please ensure that you and your staff understand how to utilize L.A. Care’s free interpreting services for members with limited English proficiency.
