St. Catharines Arts Awards - Nominations Open!

Who will you nominate?


Join us in celebrating the vibrant arts community of St. Catharines by nominating someone deserving for the 2024 Arts Awards!


Award categories include:

  • Arts in Education
  • Emerging Artist
  • Established Artist
  • Making a Difference
  • Patron of the Arts


Submit your nominations by 4:30 p.m. on June 14. Nominees must be at least 18 years old and either a resident, business owner, arts worker, or volunteer in St. Catharines. Mark your calendars for Nov. 3 when the St. Catharines Arts Awards will take place in Robertson Theatre at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre.

Call for Artists: Phases: City of St. Catharines 15th Annual Juried Exhibition

Entry deadline: Monday, June 24, 2024


All established, emerging and student artists living in the Niagara region are invited to submit to the 2024 City of St. Catharines Annual Juried Exhibit, Phases. Inspired by the total eclipse this coming April, Phases is asking the artist to explore this phenomenon and how we understand and interpret it.


Phases will be displayed in the third-floor gallery space at City Hall (50 Church St., St. Catharines).

Art Exhibitions at City Hall

Cultural Services is excited to be getting more of the City's Civic Art Collection out on display! The following three exhibitions have just been installed on the second and third floors at City Hall. They can be viewed during the building's regular opening hours: Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Vibrant!

On Display: now to Fall 2024 at City Hall (2nd Floor)


Among the various palettes available, vibrant colors hold a special place in the realm of art. This exhibition's name references the six pieces’ captivating colours that lend depth, energy, and visual impact to the artworks.

Downtown: a walk through time

On Display: April 8 to Fall 2024 at City Hall (3rd Floor)


An artistic time capsule for the transitions and transformations of not only downtown St. Catharines’ infrastructure, but also the community’s relation to and perception of this space.

Spotlight: Recent Acquisitions

On Display: April 8 to Fall 2024 at City Hall (3rd Floor)


This exhibition features recent acquisitions into the City’s Civic Art Collection from two recent exhibitions, including the City’s 14th Annual Juried Exhibition, “open-ended”, as well as “Recontextualizing Black History Through Art”.

News from the Cultural Services Office

Welcome Jessica!


Culture Services is pleased to welcome Jessica Wilson (she/her) as the new Supervisor of Cultural Services.


Jessica has worked in the arts and culture sector since 2006. She has held roles at the Edward James Foundation, VTAPE, Oakville Galleries, Corkin Gallery and Westerkirk Works of Art. For the past five years she held the position of Cultural Development Coordinator at the Town of Lincoln and the Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre. She holds an Honours B.A. in Art History and Criticism from the University of Western Ontario, and a Masters of Information from the University of Toronto, with specializations in Museum Studies and Archival Management. She has additional certifications from the University of Pennsylvania in Arts and Culture Strategy and the International Society of Appraisers. As a sector volunteer, she has held positions on the board of directors for both the Kawartha Lakes Museum and Archives and Scarborough Arts (LASO).


We’re very excited to have Jessica as part of the team!
