Arts and Culture Update March 24 - COVID-19
The City of Brampton is aware of, and concerned about, the significant impacts that COVID-19 is having and will continue to have on the arts and culture sector.

Our thoughts go out to the many artists and arts organizations whose health and livelihood are being directly affected by the affects of COVID-19. The situation is changing rapidly and we cannot predict the extent of its impact on Brampton’s and Canada’s national arts community. At this time we are monitoring the developments closely.
City of Brampton Response to COVID-19

The City of Brampton takes COVID-19 seriously and continues to follow the advice of Peel Public Health. The City has made significant changes to services and programming to help protect the health and wellbeing of our community. All City facilities including City Hall, Civic Theatres, Recreation and Community Centres, and Brampton Library branches are CLOSED until, at least, April 5. All critical services, including Fire and Emergency Services, Brampton Transit, Traffic Services, By-Law Enforcement, Road Operations, Security Services, and Animal Services continue to operate to support our community.


Mayor's Business Support and Economic Recovery
Task Force

The City of Brampton has formed several Task Forces to support the community with the current challenges we are facing in the ever-changing COVID-19 pandemic. One of these Task Forces is the Mayor's Business Support and Economic Task Force, which is responsible for coordinating recommendations and measures to support business relief efforts in Brampton.

This group will be co-chaired by Regional Councillors Michael Palleschi and Paul Vicente. They will work with local stakeholders including the Downtown BIA, Brampton Board of Trade and the Black Chamber of Commerce.

We have prepared a survey to collect data to better understand the impact , financially and otherwise, COVID-19 pandemic has had and/or is having on cultural industry business activity, events, and projects across the arts and culture sector. The survey will only take a few minutes to complete. All of your answers are private and confidential unless you wish to be contacted.
While our governments and major arts bodies are still in the process of determining practical and immediate ways to help the arts sector face the challenges of COVID-19, they have all stated the importance of documenting your financial losses. We encourage you to document the effects of this pandemic (financial and otherwise) on your programming and operations.

Cultural Services Programs & Services Update:

We will continue working the sector, our colleagues, and partners, to understand and capture the effects for artists and organizations. As the situation progresses and we learn more we are committed to providing you with updates.
 
Arts, Culture and Creative Industries Development Agency

We are pressing forward with establishing Brampton’s new Arts, Culture and Creative Industries Development Agency, which will play an important role in supporting the recovery of the creative sector. We will keep you informed as the process moves ahead.

Advance Brampton Fund Updates

With the outbreak of COVID-19, grant applicant organizations may face extraordinary challenges. We are working hard to address this unprecedented situation and will be providing an update in the coming days.
