On Sunday 11 November 2018 we commemorated Remembrance Day. This year had a special significance as it marked the 100th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914-18).
Council worked with local RSL Sub Branches on memorial services at the Lidcombe and Merrylands Remembrance Parks and the Auburn and Granville Memorial Parks. A Lone Pine tree was planted at the Merrylands, Granville and Auburn ceremonies.
In the lead up to for Remembrance Day, Cumberland Libraries Oral Histories Project interviewed three World War II veterans about their life, service and memories of the Cumberland region.
Fred Walker, Charles Munnery and Eric Tweedale were asked to share their personal experiences about their war service and life in Cumberland.
