Cumberland Local Festival showcases diverse local stories
People from across Sydney and beyond are invited to experience the people and places of Cumberland during the six-week-long Cumberland Local Festival from 18 April to 26 May 2019.
Featuring a wide variety of community, cultural and cuisine-related local events, Cumberland Local Festival will kick off with the Try Sports Event at the Bathurst Street Park on Thursday 18 April and conclude with the Auburn Botanic Gardens Open Day on Sunday 26 May.
A notable feature of the event is Our Stories Granville, which sees Granville Town Hall and carpark become a cinema and event experience for one night only. The unique experience will be powered by mobile projection specialists Little Projector Company as featured at Parramatta Lanes and Australia's biggest light festivals including Vivid Sydney and Melbourne White Night.
Granville Town Hall will be transformed into a canvas with large scale visuals inspired by the stories and places of the people of Granville all set to a live soundscape. T
he short films, stories and visuals shown will be crowd sourced from the Granville community, with
contributions and collaborations from Arab Theatre Studio, River City Voices and Granville Poetry Slam. The audience c
an interact with the display live.

Civic Park at Pendle Hill to be transformed into kids utopia
Civic Park in Pendle Hill will be transformed into a kids' utopia with free activities for children aged three to 10 years on Friday 26 April from 10am to 2pm.
Free activities include:
- Get Wild Animal Show - Check out the live shows with your favourite creatures, including a crocodile, invertebrates, frogs, bird species and a possum and/or sugar gliders!
- Flying Elephant and Rockin' Rockets rides
- Outdoor cinema - Luis and the Alien at 10am (PG) and Space Jam 12pm (PG)
- Laser tag - Explore the depths of space but be careful, there's plenty of aliens about! For ages 3 plus
- Inflatable jungle maze - Run the maze gauntlet, it looks easier than you think! Ages 3 plus
- Dino Digs - Don your archaeological hat and go on a Dino dig, to uncover prehistoric Dino eggs. But be sure to watch out for the Roaming Raptor! Ages three plus.
- Yummy food from gozleme to hot dogs, ice cream and more at an affordable price.

Ramadan Street Food Festival celebrates diversity
The Cumberland Local Festival will showcase a unique element of its community during the Ramadan Street Food Festival in Auburn on Saturday 18 May 2019.
Residents and visitors are invited to dine under the stars, when a one night only food festival rolls into Auburn, bringing a huge line up of food trucks and street food stalls, alongside famous Auburn eateries for an authentic Ramadan dining experience.
The festival takes place on Saturday 18 May, from 6pm to midnight along Auburn Road, between Mary Street and Beatrice Street. All are welcome. This is a family friendly event.

Take a grave journey through Cumberland's famous necropolis
Residents and visitors can take a journey into the city that always sleeps during a tour of Cumberland's most famous necropolis Rookwood Cemetery on Saturday 11 May 2019.
A grave entry into Cumberland Local Festival, the Friends of Rookwood Heritage Tour will take participants throughout the cemetery visiting the final resting places of notable residents and the charnel mausoleums that characterise the iconic graveyard.
The tours include the following:
- Friends of Rookwood Heritage Tour 1, 10am, 12pm
- Friends of Rookwood Heritage Tour 2, 11am, 1pm
- Rookwood General Cemetery Landmark Tour Landmark Tour, 10am, 1pm
The tours are free but bookings are essential.

ANZAC Day 2019 services in Cumberland
A series of dawn services and memorial events will be held across Cumberland to commemorate ANZAC Day 2019, marking
101 years since the First World War ended.
While ANZAC Day is celebrated every year on 25 April, this year services are being held in Cumberland on Sunday 14 April and Thursday 25 April.
ANZAC Day Sunday Service:

Cumberland to celebrate women in sport
Cumberland Council will acknowledge the important role that women play in sport in the local community and across Australia at the Women in Sport Event on Tuesday 7 May 2019.
This event aims to highlight the important contribution of female sporting club volunteers, administrators, technical officials, coaches, managers and athletes to local sports.
Guest speaker at the event will be Australian Paralympian wheelchair racer Eliza Ault-Connell.
The event will be held on Tuesday 7 May from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at The Holroyd Centre.
Entry is free and registrations essential before 4.30pm on Friday 3 May.

Cumberland Council is inviting you to Have Your Say on Council's Draft Operational Plan 2019-20 for Year 3 of our four-year Delivery Program, on public exhibition from 18 April 2019 to 15 May 2019.
The Plan outlines how Council plans to deliver on the expectations of the community in alignment with the Community Strategic Plan 2017-27. It details primary activities Council plans to undertake during the year, as well as the budget and other key financial components.
We are committed to planning in partnership with key stakeholders and encourage all community members to provide their feedback and help shape the future of Cumberland.
