People and places of Cumberland on show during festival

People from across Sydney and beyond are invited to experience the people and places of Cumberland during the six-week-long Cumberland Local Festival from 18 April to 26 May 2019.
   
"Cumberland is one of the strongest examples of a multicultural community living in harmony and the Cumberland Local Festival celebrates all that makes our community a great place to live, work and visit," Cumberland Mayor Greg Cummings said.
 
"From the food trails of Auburn and Granville, the Fun 4 Kids Event in Wentworthville to the Sydney Writers Festival Poets and Writers performance at Auburn Town Hall, we have a little bit of everything for people to experience.
   
Some highlights of the Cumberland Local Festival include:  
  • Our Stories Granville @ Granville Town Hall (Saturday 11 May)
  • Feasting After Fasting in Merrylands (Sunday 12 May)
  • Heritage Tour of Rookwood (Saturday 4 May)
  • Sydney Writers Festival Poets and Writers Performance @ Auburn Town Hall (Wednesday 1 May)
  • Fun 4 Kids in Civic Park (Friday 26 April)
  • Auburn Botanic Gardens Open Day (Sunday 26 May)
Youth Week in Cumberland

Cumberland Council will mark Youth Week 10-18 April 2019 with a number of local events for our young people.

Youth Week began as a NSW Government initiative in 1989, and has since grown to be a celebration of young people in every state and territory across the country.

National Youth Week is jointly supported by the Australian Government, State and Territory Governments and Local Governments and is an opportunity for young people to come together and share ideas, showcase their talents and voice their concerns on issues of importance in their community.

Youth Week events in Cumberland include:
  • Movie Night Market at the Auburn Centre for Community, Friday 12 April from 5-9pm 
  • Believe and Achieve Basketball workshop (ages 12-18) at Auburn PCYC Saturday 13 April from 1-4pm
  • Inflatable Fun Fair at Bathurst Street Park Tuesday 16 April from 1-4pm

Clubs for Cumberland applications open

Clubs for Cumberland is a community grants program supporting local projects and services that provide assistance to people in the Cumberland area.

Applications open Tuesday 2 April 2019 at 9am and close Thursday 2 May 2019 at 4pm.

Applications are open to local not-for-profit organisations with an ABN. Organisations without an ABN must be sponsored by an incorporated organisation.

You can attend  grant preparation workshops and  access resources to help put your application together.


The ClubGrants application form will be available for download when the round opens on 2 April 2019. Applications need to be submitted through the SmartyGrants website.

Free Berala immunisation clinic now open

Cumberland Council has now opened a new and free immunisation clinic at Berala.

"Council has been providing free immunisation clinics to the community for more than 60 years and has always been a great service for parents. We're happy to now be able to offer a direct service to the Berala community," Mayor Greg Cummings said.

"This is one of the few free immunisation clinics in western Sydney and it is available for our whole community not just those who live in Cumberland.

The service is run by qualified and experienced nurses from NSW Western Sydney Local Health District and is free of charge.

The new clinic will operate once per month at Berala Community Centre. 

Kids invited to enjoy nature in Nature Play Week 

Cumberland Council will participate in Nature Play Week 2019 from April 17-28 with lots of wonderful events for local children and their families.

Nature Play Week encourages parents and kids (and people of all ages) to take a break from screens and spend time playing outside in nature. 

Now in its sixth year, Nature Play Week is part of Premier's Active April campaign.

Join the Circus Spectacular these school holidays 

Do you have school aged children? Then bring them into a Cumberland library over the holidays and join in our circus themed fun from 13-28 April. 

There are activities at all eight Cumberland Council Libraries including craft, stories and movie sessions.

Business Bus is coming to Auburn  
The Business Bus travels across NSW visiting communities to provide information and advice about the support available from the NSW Government to help small businesses to start and grow.
