Have your say on draft Wentworthville Town Centre plan

Cumberland Council is inviting residents to comment on the draft plans for Wentworthville Town Centre, which will be on public exhibition until Sunday 21 July, 2019.
 
The Wentworthville Centre planning proposal and draft planning controls will support the revitalisation of Wentworthville Centre, and reflect Council's adopted Wentworthville Planning and Place Making Strategy.
 
The community is encouraged to have their say at the following sessions:
  • Community drop-in session, Thursday 13 June (6-7.30pm), Wentworthville Library
  • Public Meeting, Saturday 22 June (2pm), Wentworthville Community Centre - presentation by Council staff, followed by Q+A.
Submissions close at 11.30pm on Sunday 21 July 2019.  Please quote 'SC661' on any submission.

Draft Cumberland Biodiversity Strategy on exhibition

Cumberland Council is encouraging feedback from the community on the Draft Cumberland Biodiversity Strategy 2019.
 
The Draft Cumberland Biodiversity Strategy 2019 has been developed to protect and enhance biodiversity in the Cumberland area. It outlines a framework for managing biodiversity, sets out a vision and identifies objectives and actions under three Key Focus Areas:
 
1 - Community Awareness and Engagement
2 - Habitat Connectivity and Condition
3 - Planning and Innovation
   
Council is also calling for public submissions on its Draft Environmental Management Framework 2019.
 
This framework outlines how Council protects, enhances and improves our environment for current and future generations, supporting our commitment to deliver 'A clean and green community' as outlined in our Community Strategic Plan 2017-27.
 
Both plans are on exhibition until 4pm on Wednesday 19 June 2019.

Ramadan Street Food Festival attracts thousands 

The Ramadan Street Food Festival in the heart of Auburn on Saturday 18 May attracted an estimated 15,000 people, making it a night to remember.  

Guests enjoyed international cuisine delivered by 22 food stalls/food trucks and local restaurants situated along Auburn Road in a festive community atmosphere.  

The event, organised by Council with a lead-in time of 10-weeks, ran smoothly with positive feedback received from the community, Councillors and staff members. 

Cumberland Council would like to thank the local community for its excellent support of this event, which will return even bigger and better next year.
Free immunisation clinics for children at Berala

Cumberland Council is encouraging people in the Cumberland community to take advantage of its new and completely free immunisation clinic at Berala Community Centre.
 
Children aged six weeks to nine years can receive free vaccinations, administered by registered immunisation nurses, at the new Berala clinic as well as Wentworthville and Merrylands clinics.
 
Locations and times:
  • Berala Community Centre: 98 - 104 Woodburn Road, Berala 9.30 - 11am.
  • Wentworthville Community Centre, 2 Lane Street, Wentworthville, 9.30 - 10.45am.
  • Merrylands Council Service Centre, 16 Memorial Avenue, Merrylands. Day clinic from 9.30 -11.15am and evening clinic from 5.30 -7pm.
Flu Shots are also available for all children from six months of age until five years at Council's Immunisations Clinics.

Expressions of Interest open for Fun 4 Kids

Council is inviting stallholders of food, retail,  novelty items, workshops and information to  apply for a stall at the Fun4Kids 'Warali Wali' event on  Friday 12 July 2019.

The even is a free NAIDOC inspired school holiday event for toddlers and children to be held from 10am to 2pm at Central Gardens, Merrylands.

The event will feature:
  • Dan Sultan premiering his new children's album Nali and friends
  • The opening of Central Gardens new nocturnal house
  • Free rides and many other fun activities.
If you would like to participate as a stallholder, please submit an expression of interest by  downloading the info pack and application form (PDF, 1.54 MB) and returning it to Council's Events Officer by email to   stallholders@cumberland.nsw.gov.au.

Cumberland wins big in 2019 Parks and Leisure awards

Cumberland Council and Belgravia Leisure have been recognised as leaders in  breaking down cultural barriers in Australia through leisure by winning the 2019 Parks and Leisure Community Based Initiative of the Year Award. 
 
Council and Belgravia Leisure were recognised for their joint submission on a Refugee Employment Program that  recruited suitable people who used the Auburn pool to ensure the workforce reflected the diversity of the local community. 

The initiative was also featured on SBS World News in 2018 for its innovation and success.
 
Congratulations to the team involved in the program.



Design Excellence Panel Policy on public exhibition

Cumberland Council is encouraging public input on its Design Excellence Panel Policy which is currently on public exhibition until Wednesday 19 June 2019.
 
The policy will help Council achieve the highest standard of architectural and urban design in the local built environment. 
 
Any person who wishes to make a submission may do so in writing until 4pm on Wednesday 19 June 2019.

Petfest will be hosted by Dr Katrina Warren and her team of wonder dogs showing off their skills on the main stage.

Bush School Storytime at Central Gardens

Come along to a free fun-filled morning of stories and songs with special guest, Poppy the Possum.

Held outdoors under trees, this natural learning environment is an enjoyable experience for parents, carers and their children.
