Feast Day of St. John Vianney, the Curé of Ars
"The soul hungers for God, and nothing but God can satiate it. Therefore He came to dwell on earth and assumed a Body in order that this Body might become Food for our souls."
Jean Baptiste-Marie Vianney was born in the tiny village of Dardilly, France, the son of French peasants. Feeling a vocation to the priesthood, young Jean entered the seminary to begin his studies. Academics did not come easy for the young man and he almost didn’t make it. But persevering with the help of God, through many trials and years of labor and study, Jean Vianney was ordained to the Priesthood.
Almost all of his priest life was spent as pastor for a small parish in Ars, France. He became well-known for his pastoral zeal, especially as a patient and comforting confessor. He spent many hours in the confessional, reconciling and unburdening all who came to him. In the French language, the word for “pastor” is “Curé.” Hence, St. John Vianney has become known as the Curé of Ars. He is the patron of our parish and the patron of seminarians and parish priests.

August 15 is the feast day that celebrates Mary's Assumption into heaven. It is one of three feasts of Mary that are Holy Days of Obligation for Catholics in the United States. January 1 is the feast of Mary, the Mother of God, and December 8 is the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. The assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven has long been held as an important Catholic belief. The belief was not defined as dogma, however, until 1950 by Pope Pius XII. The dogma teaches that Mary, who was without sin, was taken, body and soul, into the glory of heaven.
Mass Times for the Assumption at Curé
- August 14 - Vigil Mass at 6:00 pm
- August 15 - Masses at 6:30 am, 8:15 am, 12:10 pm, and 6:00 pm

Catholic Charities Food Drive
Summer Food Drought
Our food pantries are in urgent need of food. With the rising cost of groceries, supply chain issues, and an increase of those accessing our food pantries (up 25% since February 2022) the demand to feed our neighbors in need is critical. At a time when food pantry visitors need us the most, our pantry shelves are growing empty. All our food pantries are experiencing what we call a food drought. Supply chain issues are making it difficult to purchase the food we need, and this summer our donations are down almost 20%.

Eucharistic Adoration Chapel
“Let the Children come to me…“ (Luke 18:16)
Each of us is a precious child, called to an intimate relationship with God through friendship and love. We are called as His children to open our hearts in trust, and to gaze upon the beauty of our Redeemer in awe. When we come to Adoration, we are handing God the keys to our hearts, allowing the rays of His love and grace to bathe our souls in the light of His Presence. Like Mary of Bethany, we are seating ourselves at the feet of Christ and letting His very essence pour down upon us. It is here that we find the better part.
Have you considered spending an hour of your time at the feet of Jesus? Many hours are currently open in the Adoration Chapel. The schedule is now online at https://cureofars.com/adults-eucharistic-adoration. Or contact Lisa at 913.558.1187 or at lisawhi@gmail.com.
Within the quiet of our hearts, we find God. Within the whisper of our souls, He speaks.
