Capital Campaign Volunteer Organizational Meeting Recap

Thank you to everyone who attended the Capital Campaign Volunteer Organizational Meeting on Sunday, February 16th. Denis Greene and Gwen Hoefer from Church Development led us through an informative presentation about the structure of the campaign and the teams involved. They will be our consultants throughout the process.

The campaign is supported by six volunteer committees, known as our PETYAC teams: Prayer, Events, Thanks, Youth, Ambassador, and Communications. These teams began brainstorming ideas during the meeting and are ready to start working on their respective tasks.

The following people have committed to chairing these committees. Thank you for volunteering!

  • Prayer Team - Jimmy Steimer
  • Events Team - Julia Cindrich
  • Thanks Team - Denise Perry
  • Youth Team - Mary Ann Schliesman & Kathleen Coode
  • Ambassador Team - Kirsten Flanagan
  • Communications Team - Matthew Enzweiler and Andrea Byrne

We are still looking for volunteers for each committee, so please read the descriptions available on our website and sign up at https://forms.gle/EzoEWBjpPgcPwyu97.

Building Committee Update

In the May 19, 2024 bulletin, the Building Committee provided information on capital maintenance projects completed since 2021 and future planned projects. Please see below for items completed as promised in 2024 and planned capital maintenance for Summer 2025. Thank you for continuing to support the parish so generously which makes these improvements possible.

Summer 2024 - Total cost - $332,620

  • School South Wing HVAC replaced
  • Installation of new curbing on school roof
  • HVAC split system installed for the school counseling area
  • Raised chiller lines on the school roof in preparation for roof replacement
  • Sealing and striping of campus parking lot

Summer 2025 - Total cost - $1,144,500

School roof replacement excluding the middle school wing which was completed in 2020. The roof replacement will include upgrading the insulation to a tapered system with increased thickness and a higher R-value. This enhancement will improve roof drainage and enhance the building’s energy efficiency. To accommodate the new insulation system, the perimeter parapet walls will be extended to ensure proper coverage and maintain the building’s aesthetic and functional integrity.

Master Plan Update -

As mentioned in the February 2nd bulletin, we have been given approval by the Archbishop and Finance Council along with positive feedback from parishioner surveys to proceed with the Capital Campaign. We will be focused on drafting plans for expansion of the parish hall, creating additional meeting spaces for ministries, building a new parish office area, and addressing essential church maintenance. Additional information will be made available regarding the campaign, project and how you can get involved in the coming weeks and months. Information will be communicated via e-newsletters, the bulletin, and the website.

This special, annual charitable opportunity is a call to strengthen our friendship with Christ while transforming the lives of people who seek joy and friendship with Jesus. Just as important, it provides a way to serve the people and parishes in Northeast Kansas in need of prayer and healing, physical and spiritual comfort.

  • strengthening Catholic education, faith formation, and campus ministry
  • reaching thousands of people through Pro-Life and Foster Care Ministry outreach programs
  • working with parishes to develop Catholic leaders and missionary disciples of Jesus
  • supporting the formation of our seminarians, priests, and deacons
  • funding emergency requests from our parishes and schools

Healing Mass

Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann and Bishop James V. Johnston will concelebrate a special Mass with Anointing of the Sick and ritual blessing of the sick, in the manner done at Lourdes, France, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Curé of Ars Parish. We encourage anyone who is sick, suffering, or chronically ill, and their caregivers, to attend. A short reception will be held after the Mass. If possible, please send the names of those who wish to receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick to maltakc@yahoo.com or call 913.620.1759.

Bilingual Speakers needed

Do you speak a language other than English? We would love for you to participate in our unique Pentecost Readings at Masses on June 7th and 8th. Our Lectors Ministry will be presenting the reading in Acts 2:1-11 depicting the Apostles being filled with the Holy Spirit, by speaking it in several different languages. In order to present the reading in this way, we need multiple volunteers willing to speak the reading in another language. Any language is welcome.

There will be 4 rehearsals in advance where we will bring together the main, English speaking, Lectors as well as 3-5 others who will speak the same reading individually in another language as well as all together illustrating the amazement of the Apostles hearing the words of God in their own tongues. The readings do not need to be memorized. The rehearsals are scheduled: May 27 at 6:30 pm, May 31st at 10:00 am, June 2nd at 6:30 pm and June 5th at 6:00 pm.

Please contact Lillian Klein in the Parish Office at 913.521.9360 if you are interested in participating, have any questions or need more information.
