Updates to the American Code Against Cancer

We have updated The American Code Against Cancer at https://www.pathologyoutlines.com/ccnprimer/americancodeagainstcancer.html, a concise guide outlining practical steps individuals can take to help prevent cancer and potentially reduce their risk by 30 - 50%. This Code is a central part of our strategic plan to substantially reduce cancer deaths.

Due to concerns about reliability under the current administration, we have removed links to U.S. government websites, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

We encourage all readers to review this brief document and consider how they can reduce their personal cancer risk.

My Male Breast Cancer (parts 2 & 3), by Dr. Nat Pernick

On April 9, 2025, Dr. Pernick underwent a double mastectomy and right sided sentinel node dissection for right sided male breast cancer. He wrote a series of essays where he shares his experience from a pathologist’s perspective.

In part 1, Dr. Pernick shared his journey of discovering his breast cancer and his experiences with the biopsies. In part 2, he dives into the decision making and steps behind his double mastectomy. In part 3, Dr. Pernick reviews the results of his genetic testing, sentinel lymph node evaluation, molecular tumor analysis and positron emission tomography (PET) scan.

First, Do No Harm by Dr. Nat Pernick

As a physician, I write about medical issues and try to be very careful when doing so. But I also read many articles by nonphysicians and even some physicians that are not carefully written and may harm people, particularly regarding cancer. Thus, this article.

While the phrase primum non nocere (meaning “first, do no harm”) is not actually part of the Hippocratic oath, it remains central to medical education and practice. I want to highlight how this principle applies when giving medical advice, especially by those who are not healthcare professionals.

Too often, people offer medical advice without realizing the potential harm it can cause. Unless you are extremely careful, which is difficult without formal training, you may unintentionally hurt someone rather than help.

Breast cancers with precursor lesions (part 6m)

This essay continues the discussion of breast cancer types: angiosarcoma (including postradiation), epithelioid angiosarcoma, breast implant associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma and myoepithelial carcinoma. These malignancies originate from cells that are triple negative, consistent with their nonepithelial differentiation.

New Ideas About Cancer

This essay lists Dr. Pernick‘s new or not generally accepted ideas about cancer based on his writings from 2011 to date. These are grouped into 6 sections:
