Victory for Families:
Palo Alto Passes Childcare Resolution!
| |
“On October 22, the Palo Alto City Council voted to pass our childcare resolution, marking another milestone in our movement to build the future. This decision makes a powerful statement on the importance of accessible childcare in our community and moves us another step closer to achieving accessible, quality care for every child in Santa Clara County.
“At Build the Future, we're dedicated to advocating for accessible childcare in every city throughout Santa Clara County. Childcare isn’t just an issue for families; it's essential for the health of our whole community. It impacts our economy, boosts productivity, and plays a role in reducing poverty and enhancing safety. Thanks to your commitment and action, we've already achieved resolutions in 11 Santa Clara County cities including Gilroy, Mountain View, San Jose, Saratoga, and most recently, Los Altos Hills.
“Eleven of our county’s fifteen cities have stepped up to say it loud and clear: childcare is essential. This is our moment—we have the momentum, but now we need to make it impossible to ignore. To reach every corner of Santa Clara County, we’re calling on you to amplify this movement. Follow us on social media, share our stories, and spread the stats that show just how urgent this fight is. When each of us brings one more person into this cause, we’re that much closer to real change.”

PACCC and Safe Kids Worldwide
|
PACCC recently became a happy new member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury. “Safe Kids Santa Clara/San Mateo is led by Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, which provides dedicated and caring staff, operation support and other resources to assist in achieving our common goal: keeping your kids safe. Based on the needs of the community, this coalition implements evidence-based programs, such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops and sports clinics, that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries. Safe Kids Santa Clara/San Mateo Coalition is one of 400 coalitions across the United States with partners in more than 30 countries. Check out A Parent’s Guide to Child Safety for more information.
PACCC Partners with Second Step!
|
PACCC preschools and school-age programs have been using Second Step in our programs for over one year now. Each program has a liaison who leads the activities with the children to support and promote social-emotional learning. The activities range from games such as a name memorization game with peers, to drawing out their emotions and having discussions about what those feelings mean. They are also starting to incorporate diversity into their planned activities and lessons, ensuring that all children feel welcomed when they enter any of our programs. Second Step has been a wonderful addition to our curriculum to help children as they learn emotional regulation and how to be mindful about the emotions of others, which can be a very complicated concept no matter your age!

Danny Koba
Danny Koba is a distinguished leader with over 27 years of experience in Youth Development. He has dedicated his adult life to serving the communities of the lower Bay Area peninsula. Growing up near Moffett Field, Danny formed lasting friendships with members of the military and developed a passion for local air shows. These childhood experiences inspired Danny to enlist in the Marine Corps Reserve, and he was deployed to Iraq in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
| |
From a young age, Danny knew he wanted to give back to his community, focusing his career on recreation and youth development. He began his journey with the City of Mountain View and later continued his career at the YMCA. Through his work at the Y, Danny directly supported the cities of East Palo Alto, Los Altos, Mountain View, and Palo Alto.
During his tenure at the Palo Alto Family YMCA, Danny established a significant relationship with Palo Alto Community Child Care (PACCC). With PACCC's support, the Y was able to introduce teen programs at the Ventura Center. Recognizing a shared vision to serve all youth in Palo Alto, Danny enthusiastically joined the PACCC board in 2017 for his first term and was excited to rejoin the board in 2024.
