Week of October 21-27, 2024 | |
| | The late Fr. Patrick Peyton is credited with the statement, “the family that prays together, stays together.” It’s a simple statement, and thought provoking. Shared prayer reminds us that we are part of the group, and that together we ask the intercession of God, or perhaps one of the saints. Sometimes Catholics are accused of worshipping Mary or the saints. Of course, that is not true. Only God deserves our worship, but sometimes we feel more comfortable asking God’s help through a saint, particularly if they have experienced the same kind of issue we are dealing with at the moment, or are a special patron for a place (e.g. St. Anthony of Padua if we have lost something, or St. Francis of Assisi for Curley). The rosary is also a Catholic devotion, a prayer that in its simple repetition gives an opportunity to reflect on the life of Jesus in different sets of “mysteries.” October is the traditional Month of the Rosary. Go HERE to read a little more about one family’s appreciation of the rosary, and YouTube has videos on how to pray the rosary.

Next week we prepare for Open House. I know that the best commercial for our school are our families. Thank you for spreading the good word about Curley to those you meet.
Your son's experience here will inspire others to consider Curley as their high school of choice. Of course, our students experiences are based on their involvement and engagement in class, in clubs, in sports, in the arts, and in their faith development. Thank you for supporting and encouraging their involvement.

Open House will be held on Saturday & Sunday, October 26 and 27, 2024. This is the largest recruiting event for the Curley community and we appreciate everyone’s help to make this event a success. We are in need of parent volunteers for several areas throughout the tour route. We are also looking for parent tour guides! Leading a tour alongside your son is one of the most unique features Curley's Open House offers. Consider leading a tour with your son. For all volunteer opportunities available to PARENTS, please sign up HERE.
Students can sign up to volunteer on forms outside of the Admissions Office. We are in need of student help in several areas, even if your son is not comfortable yet leading a tour. There will be a tour training for all students prior to Open House.
Donations are also needed for the hospitality area during Open House weekend. Freshmen and sophomore parents are asked to donate cases of 8 oz bottles of water or 12 oz cans of soda. Junior and senior parents are asked to donate variety boxes/bags of 1 oz bags of chips (no pretzel/goldfish/cheez-its please). Items may be dropped off to the Main Office now through October 25.
For any Open House volunteering/donation questions, please contact Caroline Kogler Palmisano, Director of Special Events, cpalmisano@archbishopcurley.org, or 410-485-5000, ext. 211.

Asynchronous Day --
November 4, 2024
The Archdiocese has permitted two Asynchronous Days on each school’s calendar. Our first is scheduled for November 4th. Students will be provided assignments to be completed at home that day. Classes will not be held as normal. Teachers will be at school to finalize first quarter grades, plan lessons, and to work collaboratively. Students will not be on campus, but rather will be completing their assigned work at home. We will communicate reminders about this day, but we want to provide some context as you look ahead on the calendar. Separate communication regarding athletics on those days will be sent.

The Parents’ Guild is excited to introduce a new series of events, the Motherhood Series. These will be individual events for the Mom's (and female friends) of Curley. It is a chance for ladies to gather, socialize, and participate in a make-and take for each event. The proceeds made from the ticket sales will be used to sponsor a Parents' Guild scholarship and support other activities for the students and faculty.
Please see the flyer below for information about the series, and look for a flyer announcing our first event coming soon!

From the College Counseling Office |
Attention Class of 2025 Parents
We will be hosting a Financial Aid Zoom on Tuesday, October 22, at 6:30 pm. We have invited Loyola's Financial Aid office to present. Information will be covered to help you prepare for the FAFSA and the CSS profile. FAFSA opens December 1. To prepare for the opening of the FAFSA, families can go to https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch and create an FSA ID now. The student needs an FSA ID and the parent needs their own FSA ID. You don't need to wait until December 1 to create an FSA ID.
Seniors who have a November 1st college application deadline should have their applications submitted. Students with a November 15th deadline have until November 1st to submit applications. As of today, 50% of seniors have submitted applications! Please make sure they mark it in SCOIR when they have applied so we send the additional materials. All students are encouraged to see their college counselor if they need any help.
