Week of March 3-9, 2025

From the President

On Wednesday, March 5, we will begin the Season of Lent, the Christian time of preparation for Easter. The traditional practices of Lent are prayer, fasting and almsgiving—all things in which we can be involved physically, as well as spiritually. At the same time, in this Holy Year, we are invited to be “pilgrims of hope.” Those Lenten and Holy Year goals are not contradictory. Lent leads us to the holiest days of the Church year as we celebrate the Triduum, culminating in Easter. Keeping that destination in mind, our embrace of Lent will enhance our celebration of Jesus’ resurrection, his triumph over death. That alone is reason to have hope. May the 40 days of Lent be a graced moment for you and your family.

-- Fr. Donald

From the Principal

We welcome colleagues from St. Francis High School in Buffalo this week. They will spend three days with us in a Franciscan Charism Workshop. The friars minister alongside lay men and women, and this workshop allows us to pray together and to reflect on the important work of our schools. Together we carry forward the Franciscan tradition of education. We are blessed to do that with colleagues from another Franciscan school.

Only three weeks remain in the third quarter of the school year. The last day of the quarter is scheduled for March 20. Please continue to remind your son to use the resources at his disposal to achieve in the classroom.

Finally, as we enter the Lenten Season, I pray that this time be spiritually fruitful for you and your family.

This is a reminder that all service hours are due on the Mission-4-Service Google Classroom by April 28. Please ensure that your son is in the Classroom. If any student is not in the Classroom, they should see their theology teacher ASAP. The form that is to be filled out and submitted can be found in the Classroom. Any student who does not submit their hours by April 28 will receive a zero as an assessment grade in their Theology class and become ineligible until they complete the hours. All students are responsible for completing their own hours. Freshmen need to complete 10 hours, sophomores 15 hours, juniors 20 hours, and seniors 25 hours. Please reference previous emails and the Mission-4-Service page on the website for more information as to what qualifies as hours.

Lent begins on Wednesday, March 5. We will celebrate an Ash Wednesday liturgy. As a Curley community, we will have a hygiene product drive from March 10-21. All products will be donated to the Franciscan Center. They are searching for shampoo, deodorant, wash clothes, disposable razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, and feminine hygiene products. Please place your donations in the auditorium lobby during those dates. Please note the change in date for this drive from the past parent newsletter.
