Week of October 14-20, 2024

From the President

First, thank you to all who helped to make Homecoming a great success!

The Scripture readings this Sunday (Wisdom 7:7-11; Hebrews 4:12-13; Mark 10:17-30) all have a message on seeking wisdom rather than simply pursuing earthly riches. In a college preparatory school, there is certainly a desire to help students find their vocational calling and best possible future, and we want them to find success to provide for themselves and their future families. With a Franciscan philosophy, there must also be that search for spiritual wisdom, or their deeper desires and possibilities (not always easily recognized) might be excluded in those pursuits. We are not in this world for purely temporal purposes. Pope St. John Paul II would regularly speak of “the law of the gift.” It means that we become most fully alive when we give ourselves over to God and others. When we give in this way, we receive more than we could ever anticipate. It’s quite a message to reflect upon.

From the Principal

Thank you to all of our parents who supported the Homecoming celebrations last week. This was a great example of the Curley Family. Certainly the Brotherhood here is real, and that sense of connection extends beyond our student body to their parents, alumni parents, graduates, and many others. Homecoming was a great day for us, because it brought so many people together on one day.

I hope that you will continue to find ways to connect to the school. Later this month we have our Open House. Consider volunteering one or both of those days. It is a great way to spread the word about why you chose Curley for your son.

Please pay careful attention to the information about the adjusted schedule for Testing Day on Tuesday, October 15th. That is an abbreviated day for our students.

Fall Student Raffle Kicks Off

Students received their Fall Raffle ticket packets on October 10th from their faculty advisors. The raffle winner will have their choice of free tuition for the 2025-26 school year or $10,000 cash. All sold tickets are due back by November 13, 2024, and families are reminded that per the tuition agreement, each student is required to return a minimum of $75 worth of sold tickets (or be charged $150 on their tuition). This raffle benefits every Curley family as money raised goes directly toward the school's operating budget. There will be "Top Seller" prizes and any student returning $150 worth of sold tickets will have his name entered into a drawing for 25 Visa gift cards. If we reach our $80,000 goal, students will have November 27th (the day before Thanksgiving) off from school. Additional tickets can be picked up from the Advancement Office at any time during school hours. Thank you in advance for your support of this important Curley fundraiser! Please e-mail Barry Stitz at bstitz@archbishopcurley.orgg with any questions.

Asynchronous Day --

November 4, 2024

The Archdiocese has permitted two Asynchronous Days on each school’s calendar. Our first is scheduled for November 4th. Students will be provided assignments to be completed at home that day. Classes will not be held as normal. Teachers will be at school to finalize first quarter grades, plan lessons, and to work collaboratively. Students will not be on campus, but rather will be completing their assigned work at home. We will communicate reminders about this day, but we want to provide some context as you look ahead on the calendar. Separate communication regarding athletics on those days will be sent.

From the Assistant Principal of Academics

On Tuesday, October 15, Freshman and Juniors will be taking the PSAT, Sophomores will be taking the Pre ACT, and seniors who signed up for the SAT will all be testing that day. Please read the Counseling section of this bulletin for all the details. October 11th marks three weeks until the end of the 1st Quarter. Please continue to check your son’s grades and reach out to his teachers if you have any questions or concerns, especially if you were unable to attend or schedule an appointment to meet with your son’s teachers for conference night. Please remind your son(s) to check Plus Portals on a regular basis and to see their teacher(s) if they have questions. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please feel free to reach out to me.

Attention All Parents

Please remember that Tuesday, October 15, is school wide testing day.

  • Class of 2028 will take the PSAT 8/9 in the BlueBook app.
  • Class of 2027 will take the preACT in the Pearson TestNav app.
  • Class of 2026 will take the PSAT/NMSQT in the Bluebook App.
  • Already registered seniors will take the in-school SAT. Any senior who is not already registered for the in-school SAT has the day off.

Students should report to school by 8:00 am and go directly to their testing room. Students may wear Archbishop Curley gear on top, and be in full uniform from the waist down. All tests are online so it's imperative that your son bring a FULLY CHARGED device to school. The college counselors have been pushing into English classes to prepare devices for testing day. There are no classes, faculty adviser or lunch periods on testing day. Students will complete testing by 12 noon and are dismissed home. The buses will depart from campus early. Students have been given ways to prepare and study for these important standardized tests. Check-in with your son and ask to see his testing app and if he's been studying. An email will be sent with more details.

The  National Association for College Admission Counseling is hosting the biggest college fair of the year on October 16, 2024, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Baltimore Convention Center. Click HERE to see the list of colleges attending. We hope you can go and explore colleges!

Attention Class of 2025 Parents

We will be hosting a Financial Aid Zoom on Tuesday, October 22, at 6:30 pm. We have invited Loyola's Financial Aid office to present. Information will be covered to help you prepare for the FAFSA and the CSS profile. FAFSA opens December 1. To prepare for the opening of the FAFSA, families can go to https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch and create an FSA ID now. The student needs an FSA ID and the parent needs their own FSA ID. You don't need to wait until December 1 to create an FSA ID.
