Week of March 10-16, 2025

From the President

The Gospel passage for the first Sunday of Lent always tells of Jesus being tempted (this year it is Luke 4:1-13). Jesus was fasting, and he’s tempted to seek food; he was beginning his public ministry, and he’s tempted to seek power. They can remind us of temptations we may have, especially when we want to be good and do good. Of course, Jesus resists those temptations, and responds with answers from Scripture. The practices of Lent are to help fortify us for when the temptations come, and to give us the strength to resist the temptations.  Temptations are often focused on personal satisfaction or honor, and so Lent reminds us to look beyond the physical and earthly, and to keep an eye on the spiritual and eternal. Lent can help us have a healthier view of ourselves and how we want to live.

-- Fr. Donald

From the Principal

The third quarter is rapidly coming to a close. With a late Easter this year, the fourth quarter will certainly feel like a sprint to the end of the school year. I know that on my own family calendar, the scheduled activities are accumulating. This pace is often difficult for families.

I hope, as we enter Lent, that you are able to make some time for yourselves for prayer and reflection. I hope that Lent will be a time in which we all draw closer to the Lord and that we find a sense of peace in a very busy world.

-- Jeremy Joseph ’96

From the Campus Minister
