Week of November 4-10, 2024

From the President

Thank you to all who helped to make last weekend’s Open House a success. There was a lot of enthusiasm among the visitors, which, no doubt, they caught from the students, parents, faculty and staff who were present. We thank the Admissions team in particular for all their efforts.

This week we celebrate All Saints Day on Friday and All Souls Day on Saturday. Yes, these days are a reminder of our mortality, but they also remind us of the hope we have through our faith in Jesus, the Risen Lord. As we pray for particular individuals we have known, especially family members and friends, we likely reflect on the lives of these individuals, and how our lives have been impacted by theirs. When I think of my parents, aunt and uncles, classmates and friends, and so many others who have moved on to eternal life, I am also grateful for the memories and example I received from them. What a blessing that we can pray: “May the souls of the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace!”

-- Fr. Donald

From the Principal

The first quarter of the school year has closed, and we are now in the second quarter. Time certainly feels like it is moving quickly! For new families, it is important to note that the first and second quarters combine to make the first semester. Semester grades are averaged based on the first two quarters, as well as the scores on the midterm exams. Please be mindful that midterms take place before Christmas. That schedule for exams will be shared as we get closer to the exam dates, but the dates appear on the school calendar.

I also want to note that I have been very impressed with student leadership displayed this year. From SGA events through our FYM activities and everything in between, the students have really driven the success of these programs. The events they plan are more meaningful because they are in charge.

Asynchronous Day --

November 4, 2024

The Archdiocese has permitted two Asynchronous Days on each school’s calendar. Our first is scheduled for November 4th. Students will be provided assignments to be completed at home that day. Classes will not be held as normal. Teachers will be at school to finalize first quarter grades, plan lessons, and to work collaboratively. Students will not be on campus, but rather will be completing their assigned work at home. We will communicate reminders about this day, but we want to provide some context as you look ahead on the calendar. Separate communication regarding athletics on those days will be sent.

Semper Fi Scholarship

The Semper Fi Scholarship is open to Catholic students at Curley. The scholarship process involves the completion of an application, along with supporting documents from the parish and the pastor that evidence a commitment by the applicant and his family to living their Catholic faith. Essays from the parent and student are part of the application.

A student may receive this scholarship in any year of his education, and it is renewable on an annual basis. A committee, comprised of the donor and Archbishop Curley High School administration, will determine the annual awards.

The applicant is responsible for meeting the deadline of January 8, 2025, and having all related materials submitted by that date. Applications, in print or digital form, may be obtained in the Main Office from Mrs. Raynor.

From the College Counseling Office

Attention Class of 2025 Parents

To prepare for the opening of the FAFSA, families can go HERE and create an FSA ID now. The student needs an FSA ID and the parent needs their own FSA ID. FAFSA is anticipated to open on December 1, but you don't need to wait until December 1 to create an FSA ID, you can do so now. Please also check if your student applied to a school that requires the CSS profile. A list of those schools can be found HERE. That application is open and you should be working to fill it out.

Seniors with a November 15 deadline are asked to submit their application by November 1. As of today, 74% of seniors have submitted applications to four year colleges/universities! Please make sure they mark it in SCOIR when they have applied so we send the additional materials. All students are encouraged to see their college counselor if they need any help.
