About The Exhibition

The MA Women's Caucus for Art is participating in a worldwide project called The 6000 Circle Project. Artists from all over are creating circles to honor the feminine. This project kicked off in March in honor of Women's History Month and will continue through November - the time period based on the nine months of gestation. The MA WCA has chosen the specific theme of The Mother Cycle and over the nine months we will be exhibiting our circles all around the state. Each artist has chosen their own interpretation of this theme and their own materials. We created our circles in March, now in April we are having our first exhibition. This first exhibition will be on view at Main Street Studios in Fitchburg, MA until the end of the month.

About The Painting

This painting was created specifically for the 6000 Circle Project. For me, since I’m currently in the thick of it with being a mother, I chose to capture The Mother Cycle as my personal mother cycle – my day-to-day motherhood journey which fits so perfectly with the rest of my work. Now the circle is what inspired something different. I saw the circle as a possible spiral, and then the spiral led to a spiraling train of thought. Mothers have so much on their plate and so much on their minds all the time - balancing work, family, finding time to take care of themselves, and so on. It never ends and there is never enough time or coffee. This is why I decided to share a glimpse into my brain on a typical day as a spiraling train of my thoughts. This piece is meant to be humorous, but also serious, showing just a fraction of what mothers balance every day.

More from the Leftovers series:

“Leftovers” is a series of small abstract paintings that are each inspired by one of my larger reality-based works. Each small painting is created using only “leftover” paint from the larger painting and is meant to be an abstract representation of the mood of the original piece.
