Vessel Safety Check Update

My name is Linda Larson, and I am the Chairperson for our Squadron’s Vessel Safety Check program. Our Hilton Head VSC Committee consists of myself and 13 Examiners who have all been certified by successfully passing the United States Coast Guard exam. Our VSC process is “one of prevention through education, outreach and volunteer compliance”. We conduct events at local marinas and also perform individual inspections conducted by one of our examiners. Our Vessel Safety Check consists of 15 points of mandatory compliance, an additional number of recommended items, and a list of discussion items that are designed to keep you safe on the water. The entire inspection takes place where you and your boat are located and only takes about one-half hour. Upon passing you will receive a decal for your boat that signifies you have passed. To date we have performed 175 inspections and have an additional event planned. We hope to surpass 200 this year!

Since boating season is upon us, let us help you make it a safe experience by doing a FREE Vessel Safety Check for you. Feel free to contact me by phone or email. We are here to help make your time on the water safe and rewarding. We look forward to hearing from you.
