Arthur promoted to ADN Coordinator
Melissa P. Arthur has been promoted to Coordinator of the Associate Degree Nursing Program for Southside Virginia Community College. Prior to this appointment, she was a full-time faculty member in the program.

Dr. Michelle Edmonds, Special Assistant to the Vice President of Workforce and Academics, said, "I am excited to work with Melissa in her new role and she brings to us many talents that will be beneficial to the program and the College.”
A Mascot Story
Fall, a great time to be a college mascot like... Mike the Tiger of Louisiana State, HokieBird of Virginia Tech, the Trojan of Virginia State, Smokey of the University of Tennessee, and of course, Johnny Paws of Southside Virginia Community College. Paws was born on January 1, 2013, and named by a student who won a contest and in honor of then SVCC President John Cavan. Since then, many have ‘played’ Johnny so here is the story of just one former SVCC mascot, Jared Hurak.
On The Road with SVCC’s Touring Receptionist

What if you could take a vacation without worrying about parking spaces, hotel accommodations or how to see all the sights? If that is your idea of fantastic, worry-free travel, Southside Virginia Community College has a deal for you!!
For the past 25 years, Louise Ogburn, the face and voice of SVCC as the official receptionist, has also had the role of the tour guide. She has arranged and guided almost 30 trips with Diamond Tours alone since 2007 involving more than 1,200 sightseers.

Before this, she started arranging trips in the early 1990s, often with a travel company called Signatures; a fact that adds another 20 plus trips.
