College Navigators Introduced

SVCC’s new Navigator team works closely with potential and current students to identify career pathways, whether they be in academic or workforce development programs, that match their interests and skills. The College Navigators also assist students with overcoming non-academic barriers to completing their educational goals successfully, connecting them to other SVCC and outside resources.  Dr. Daryl Minus, Vice President, Enrollment Management & Student Success, remarks, “We are excited about the projected impact of our new College Navigators. They will play key roles in strengthening SVCC's student onboarding and retention systems. Navigators have the expertise to help keep students connected from inquiry and pre-enrollment stages to credential/goal completion.” 

SVCC Foundation Announces Addition to Board

The Southside Virginia Community College Foundation is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Ronald K. Thornhill to the Foundation Board of Directors.    Dr. Thornhill has been involved with Brunswick High School for a number of years. He served as Dean of Students from 2009 until 2019 and in September of 2019 was named Principal.  READ MORE

SVCC's First Remote Pilot Airman Class

The demand for drone services is growing and SVCC, in partnership with Sentinel Robotic Solutions, recently held the first Remote Pilot Airman class. The class prepares students to take the Federal Aviation Authority's Part 107 UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) certification test, which requires in-depth knowledge of many FAA regulations. For more information go to southside.edu or call 434-949-1026.

Former Dual Enrollment Student Featured

Thanks to earning an associate degree from Southside Virginia Community College through dual enrollment classes at Park View, Amanda Roberts was able to transfer to Ferrum College and graduate early. She was the winning pitcher in Ferrum’s 10-1 win over Averett in the 2016 USA South tournament championship game.
