Determined Learner Recognized

Just three weeks shy of her 80th birthday, Charlotte County resident Mary Hayes was honored by SVCC’s Adult Education program. Mrs. Hayes has been a dedicated student in the program's class and was awarded the "Lifelong Learner's Award." Mora daSilva, Lead Teacher, presented the award and praised her saying, "Mary is an example to all of our students as well as the teachers. We should all strive to continue learning throughout our lives."   READ MORE

Robertson’s Cool Job is Passing on Cool Skills To Others

Clyde Robertson’s cool job is teaching an incredibly cool profession to others through SVCC's Power Line Worker Training Program.  Robertson was awarded the 2019 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in the area of Outstanding Achievement by a College Faculty/Staff Member from the Virginia Community College System.    READ MORE

262nd Truck Driver Training Class Graduates

On December 12th, SVCC graduated its 262nd Truck Driver Training (TDT) class, which matriculated on the 23rd anniversary

of SVCC's first TDT class on November 4, 1996. To date, a total of 2,824 students have enrolled.  These three young men attended the graduation festivities and had a great time.

SVCC Dual Enrollment Student Starts Club

Jaylah Rochelle Brodnax, a homeschooled high school student, has fully embraced the dual enrollment (DE) opportunity at SVCC. Enrolled in the High Performance Technology program at the Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center in South Hill, she has also founded and is the president of the College's very first Dual Enrollment Club.

Jaylah says, "My experience at SVCC has been awesome. Everyone is there for you and always has your back.. The backing that I have received from the DE students and SVCC staff is unbelievable ." Jaylah is the daughter of Felicia Brodnax of LaCrosse, VA.  The club has approximately 30 standing members and had its first fundraiser selling hot cocoa and coffee during South Hill's Hometown Christmas events and parade.

Pamper Mommy & Me Students in SVCC's cosmetology program at the Estes Community Center and the Mecklenburg County YMCA recently partnered to offer a Mommy & Me, Pamper Me event. Mayra Arreguin-Garcia, a student in the program, is shown giving a manicure at the free event.
