SVCC Partners With Microsoft To Illuminate Technology Career Pathways For Women

SVCC’s “Promising Practices for Community Colleges During a Pandemic” Entry Selected

In the recent SACAD (Southern Association of Colleges with Associate Degrees) newsletter, SVCC, along with six other colleges, was highlighted for responsiveness in meeting student needs during the recent pandemic. Learn more about SVCC’s efforts of “Creating High-Touch in a No-Touch World.”

Zooming with Former Governor Terry McAuliffe

During Terry McAuliffe’s tenure as governor of Virginia from 2014 – 2018, SVCC was the grant recipient of the Governor’s Competition for Talent Solutions to assist in establishing the college’s Power Line Worker Training (PLW) School. Governor McAuliffe was the graduation speaker for the 6^th PLW cohort. During the November 21, 2017 graduation, former SVCC president, Dr. Al Roberts, recognized Governor McAuliffe as the honorary 100^th SVCC PLW graduate.

Recently, McAuliffe visited by Zoom with the current PLW class. Discussion centered around industry recognized credentials and short-term training leading to high demand jobs. In addition to the students, Scott Geovannello, a graduate of the 6^th cohort and an employee of Southside Electric Cooperative, joined the discussion.
