CONSIDERATIONS FOR SUCCESSFUL ONBOARDING

In the last couple of issues of Current Searches there have been a few brief messages on reducing employee attrition. I hope they have reinforced what you are already doing.
This week, I would like to address some important things to consider for the successful onboarding of your new employees.
The first impression is generally a lasting one, so please put your best foot forward when bringing new hires on board to ensure a successful experience.

Have their job description ready.
- Focus on high-touch personal contact with the new hire.
- Get new hire paperwork out of the way quickly.
- Provide a tour of the property.
- Apprise the team of their arrival ahead of time.
- Have them meet the team as a group and individually.
- Assign someone they can shadow for a week, if practical.
- Ask them for feedback at the end of the day.
- Thank them via an email or personal note for joining the team.
These are just a few of the many ways to create an environment where the employee feels welcomed into a happy, creative, and productive work environment.
