October 19, 2023
Dear Friends in Christ:
Some members of our parish occasionally tell me that they'd really like us to use Morning Prayer on occasion on Sundays. It occurred to me that months with five Sundays could constitute "on occasion." So that is what we're going to do on the fifth Sunday of this month. Both services on October 29th will be Morning Prayer: Rite I at 8am and Rite II at 10am.
I can tell you in advance that we will not be following this practice in March of 2024, as the fifth Sunday is Easter, and we should probably have Communion that day, right? Riiiight?
On to the updates . . .

STEWARDSHIP 2024: Rooted in Abundance
By now, you should have received letters from both the Rector and the Treasurer with a pledge card for our 2024 stewardship campaign. This year our theme is, Rooted in Abundance, which emphasizes our connection to one another, and all the good that comes from those relationships.
We ask that you please return a pledge card (even if you don't make a financial pledge), and prayerfully consider the opportunities on the back of the card, for sharing your time and talents with this parish in which you are planted and grow.
You can also make a pledge online at our website at this LINK.
Thank you for your support of St. Timothy's and our ministry in Massillon.

EPISCOPAL CHURCH 101, wraps up Oct. 25
By the time you read this, we'll have just one more session of our October series. We've covered a lot of ground this month, from the history of the church and it's structure, to why I sometimes call us "people of books," (see photo), to the Sacraments and Sacramental Rites. For our final session, we will look at the Baptismal Covenant, ethics, and the Incarnation. Join us this Wednesday if you can.
6:30-7:00 Entrée' provided, supplemented by sides and desserts you bring.
7:00-7:45 Presentation and Conversation
Please bring a small side or dessert to share. Coffee will be provided; other beverages are welcome.
We have been using "Episcopal Questions, Episcopal Answers" by Ian Markham & C.K. Robertson as something of a guide for these sessions, which you can find HERE, or wherever you get your books. We still have a few copies for sale in the parish hall. It's a helpful book to have, even if you didn't attend any of the sessions.

SOCKTOBERFEST CONTINUES
Thanks to Aaron Litten, we are once again a collection point for the Jaycees annual Socktoberfest. We'll have a bin in the parish hall during the month of October, and you're encouraged to bring in new undergarments (socks, underwear, bras, etc.) to donate to our neighbors in need. If we fill the bin, we'll fill it again.

GREAT GROOMING OF THE GROUNDS, October 28, 10-12
The last Saturday of the month, we will work toward putting the beds to sleep for the winter.
Please bring your own tools for weeding, trimming, raking, and whatever else you think should be done. Any time you can spare between 10am and noon.
We will provide coffee, donuts, water, and many thanks!

NOSFERATU AND JAY SPENCER, October 28, 7:30pm
Sr. Warden and King of the Kilgen Jay Spencer will once again be accompanying the movie classic Nosferatu at the Palace Theater in Canton. The movie starts at 7:30, but you'll definitely want to be there early to see Jay rise up from the pit like the rock star he is!
We will once again have access to the balcony, though another group will be up there as well.
It's possible we'll have pizza or something on offer. More details to come.

ALL SOULS MASS, November 2

You can add names by calling the church office, or filling out the form at this LINK, under the Worship tab at our website.

PERIODIC PUZZLE
This week I snapped a lovely photo of the tree by the main entrance and thought it would make a challenging puzzle. So, consider yourself challenged! You can find the puzzle HERE.
As always, you can choose your background color, number of puzzle pieces, and even set it to display just the edge pieces. Plus, you get a very affirming crowd reaction once you have completed it!
Also, if you want to take a trip down puzzle memory lane, you can go back and find the whole collection on our website at this LINK.

Last week, Bishop Jolly sent out a letter addressing the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, which you can find HERE. This past Sunday, we began both services with The Great Litany, as a sign of lament, as well as a plea that God would comfort all those in need of protection.
As the church, we help where we can, and we do what we can, but chiefly we pray.
I ask that you continue to pray for those in harm's way, especially the children and those most vulnerable. There are many opinions about the causes and solutions to what we see on our screens, and arguing about what is true is not likely to change anyone's mind.
And for this reason, we pray. Please pray for peace.
Faithfully,
Fr. George
Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn
but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the
strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that
all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of
Peace, as children of one Father; to whom be dominion and
glory, now and for ever. Amen. BCP 815
