September 21, 2023
Dear Friends in Christ:
As we move through the seasons of the church year, God's creation moves through it's parallel cycles. Sometimes--at least in our hemisphere--these cycles have matching meanings . . . like how Easter lines up nicely with the flowers beginning to blossom, and the signs of new life all around us.
Other times, these cycles just run on parallel paths, having little to do with each other. What I have in mind in this case is the appearance of mums everywhere you look. Even though people have already started their extravagant Halloween displays, I know it's really still September because it is now mum season. You could say, mummification must precede Halloween.
All of which is to say, thank you to Saturday's six volunteer gardeners who dug around and tidied up and planted these lovely reminders of the seasons around us.

ORGAN CONCERT, September 24
This Sunday, September 24th, there will be a special concert by local organists to dedicate the new organ at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on the west side of town. Our dear friend, Dr. W. Robert Morrison has graciously donated the organ from his home to become the new worship-leading instrument in that congregation. (You can read about it HERE, unless there's a paywall.)
Dr. Morrison has been a big supporter of all things St. Timothy's, so if you're free that afternoon, it would mean a lot to him for you to be there.
The concert starts at 3pm, and includes Mark Thewes, Chad Pittman, and Jared Goldinger, as well as Dr. Morrison. Sure to be a joyous musical experience for all!

ECW FTW!
And speaking of organ concerts, long-time observers of our fine instrument will have noted that we adjusted the height using a high-tech process called "wooden shims," (aka, 2x4s).
However, thanks to a generous donation from our ECW group, we now have a brand new bench that is not only beautiful but is also adjustable! Many thanks to our generous ladies!

TRY TANK, September 30
The Diocese is trying a new thing called Try Tank. Or, actually, St. Barnabas in Bay Village is trying it on behalf of the Diocese. Basically, it's organized group brainstorming various challenges, like how better to use music and technology, and ways we might address food insecurity and gun violence.
You can find more information HERE, and I hope you'll consider attending, just to experience Bellwether Farm if nothing else.

CONFIRMATION CLASS SCHEDULE
Our first Confirmation Class met this past Sunday, after the 10am service. We'll continue meeting every other week, from about 11:30am to 12:30, which means the upcoming schedule is
- Oct. 1
- Oct. 15
- Oct. 29
- Nov. 12
- Nov. 26
Also, we're in need of 3 adult volunteers to serve as mentors for these young folks. We promise it is not a big time commitment, and will likely strengthen your own faith. If you're interested in serving as a mentor, please see Ellen Elder-Joseph, Danielle Shaffer, or Fr. George

EPISCOPAL CHURCH 101, starts Oct. 4
Join us Wednesday evenings in October to share a meal and discuss what it means to identity as Episcopalians.
6:30-7:00 Light Supper and/or Snacks
7:00-7:45 Presentation and Conversation
Please bring a small dish to share. Coffee will be provided; other beverages are welcome.
Tentative topics are as follows:
- Oct. 4: Polity, Structure, Canons, History
- Oct. 11: Worship, Music, Prayer Book, Sacraments
- Oct. 18: Community, Baptismal Covenant, Ethics, Incarnation
- Oct. 25: Via Media, Questions and Discussion
| We will be using "Episcopal Questions, Episcopal Answers" by Ian Markham & C.K. Robertson as something of a guide for these sessions, which you can find HERE, or wherever you get your books. But, fair warning, we will be essentially reading the book in reverse, starting with chapters 7&8. You don't need to have the book to participate, but it might help with your thinking on the various topics. | |

SOCKTOBERFEST IS BACK
Thanks to Aaron Litten, we are once again a collection point for the Jaycees annual Socktoberfest. We'll have a bin in the parish hall during the month of October, and you're encouraged to bring in new undergarments (socks, underwear, bras, etc.) to donate to our neighbors in need. More details to come, but keep it in mind for now.

DIOCESAN CONVENTION, Nov. 10-11
Each year, every parish in the Diocese sends three delegates to Diocesan Convention. (As you'll learn in our first Episcopal 101 session, Oct. 4th.) We currently have two volunteers who have stepped up to serve, and we need a third before the October 20th deadline.
This year's convention is in nearby Wooster, and since all the business sessions take place on Saturday, one could easily drive over for the business and be back back home for dinner.
You can find more information HERE. Please consider representing St. Timothy's, and speak to Fr. George if you are interested or have any questions.

PERIODIC PUZZLE
As I've mentioned before, the Third Street bed has multiple peak moments over the summer, and we've reached another one. It amazes me that this was just a patch of grass just a few years ago. But thanks to the hard work put in on our Grounds Grooming Saturdays, we end up with a vision of loveliness for everyone who passes by. You can find the puzzle HERE.
As always, you can choose your background color, number of puzzle pieces, and even set it to display just the edge pieces. Plus, you get a very affirming crowd reaction once you have completed it!
Also, if you want to take a trip down puzzle memory lane, you can go back and find the whole collection on our website at this LINK.

As I mentioned up top, we live through the cycles of the year, both inside the church and out. One of the cycles I've seen over the years is that families tend to need a little bit of extra help as the school season starts, and kids are back in school.
And so, we've had an uptick in folks coming to church in need of groceries, and our supply is getting low. If you are able to pick up a couple items to help us restock, it would be much appreciated. Key items are cereals, soups, canned meats, and pasta sauce. Please don't bring canned vegetables, as we've got plenty of those.
Hope to see you around church!
Faithfully,
Fr. George
