November 2, 2023

Dear Friends in Christ:

This evening at 7:30pm, we will host a service for All Souls Day. In this service, which we've been doing every November 2nd since the peak of Covid, we remember those whom we love but see no longer. It is a powerful way to honor those who have died--to speak their names--and I hope you will join us, in person or online.

As Jesus says in the day's gospel text, "The hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live." John 5:25

On to the updates . . .

STEWARDSHIP 2024: Rooted in Abundance

This year our theme is Rooted in Abundance, which emphasizes our connection to one another, and all the good that comes from those relationships.

We ask that you please return a pledge card (even if you don't want to make a financial pledge), and prayerfully consider the opportunities on the back of the card for sharing your time and talents with this parish, in which you are planted and grow.

You can also make a pledge online at our website at this LINK.

Thank you for your support of St. Timothy's and our ministry in Massillon.

NOVEMBER OUTREACH

  • We will once again collect blankets during the month of November to offer to our neighbors this winter. Please consider bringing one (or more!) this month and place them on the stairs to the high Altar. We will bless them on November 26th before handing them off to be shared with those in need.
  • Our Thanksgiving Outreach looks a little different this year. Rather than collecting food to provide dinners for individual families, we will collect food to be distributed through the Salvation Army and our own food pantry. If you'd like to contribute, please bring in canned goods, pasta, cereals, etc.

SOLEMN SUNG EUCHARIST, Nov. 5, 5pm

Sunday evening I have the honor of presiding at the monthly Solemn Sung Eucharist at Trinity Cathedral at 5pm. If you're able to make the trip to Cleveland, you're in for a fine treat of glorious music in a gorgeous space, with lots and lots of incense. <sigh>

Alternatively, you can tune into the livestream at the Cathedral's website HERE.

PRAYERS REQUESTED

When you ask for someone to be added to the prayers, they will stay on our list for four weeks unless we hear from you. We maintain a continuing prayer list for those with ongoing needs. The email list below merges both lists.

Please be sure to let us know if someone should be taken off this list so we can focus on those in need.

Please pray for the people of Ukraine & Russia, that they would be kept safe and live in peace and safety.

Please pray for peace in the Middle East, and protection for the innocent.

And please also keep these friends and parishioners in your prayers:

BIRTHDAYS and ANNIVERSARIES

Those celebrating birthdays over the next two weeks include Quinn Higgins (11/8), Larry Hann (11/9), Jim Mismas (11/10), and Ann Renkert (11/15).

No anniversaries of which I am aware.

Be sure to send good wishes and thoughts to all who celebrate in the coming weeks!

PERIODIC PUZZLE

Coming into church yesterday I had one of those moments where I am shocked to the see the moon during the day. I don't know how it still shocks me after all these years, but as I once told my wife, I have no idea how the moon works. Anyway, I call this puzzle "Moon Over Massillon." You can find the puzzle HERE.

As always, you can choose your background color, number of puzzle pieces, and even set it to display just the edge pieces. Plus, you get a very affirming crowd reaction once you have completed it!

Also, if you want to take a trip down puzzle memory lane, you can go back and find the whole collection on our website at this LINK.

The next couple weeks are a bit of a slower time around church, but also something of the calm before the storm, as we approach December. Advent is as short as it can be this year, which might cause feelings of anxiety for some folks. But fear not! The peace of Christ abides.

I hope to see you on Sunday mornings, and if you ever need to get in touch with me, you know how to reach me.

Faithfully,

Fr. George
