Dear Friends in Christ:

Last night, about 15 of us gathered to share a meal and talk about how the Episcopal Church is structured and why. It was the first of our four Wednesday evenings, and that leaves three more for you to join us. The sessions are not cumulative, so you can come any night you're available. I hope you'll consider stopping by to learn more of what it means to be an Episcopalian.

On to the updates . . .

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS, October 8

It's time for one of my favorite events of the entire year! We will once again gather on the north lawn at 1pm for a short litany for creation, followed by individual blessing of animals. No creatures turned away--not even bulldogs from Canton. Bring them all that they may be blessed to be a blessing to you!

SOCKTOBERFEST IS BACK

Thanks to Aaron Litten, we are once again a collection point for the Jaycees annual Socktoberfest. We'll have a bin in the parish hall during the month of October, and you're encouraged to bring in new undergarments (socks, underwear, bras, etc.) to donate to our neighbors in need. If we fill the bin, we'll fill it again.

EPISCOPAL CHURCH 101, continues Oct. 11

Join us Wednesday evenings in October to share a meal and discuss what it means to identity as Episcopalians.

7:00-7:45 Presentation and Conversation

Please bring a small side or dessert to share. Coffee will be provided; other beverages are welcome.

Remaining topics are as follows:

  • Oct. 11: Worship, Music, Prayer Book (sections 4 & 6)
  • Oct. 18: Sacraments, Baptismal Covenant, Ethics, Incarnation (sections 2 & 5)
  • Oct. 25: Via Media, Questions, and Discussion

We will be using "Episcopal Questions, Episcopal Answers" by Ian Markham & C.K. Robertson as something of a guide for these sessions, which you can find HERE, or wherever you get your books. But, fair warning, we will be reading the book out of order. (See sections above.) You don't need to have the book to participate, but it might help with your thinking on the various topics.

GREAT GROOMING OF THE GROUNDS, October 28

The last Saturday of the month, we will work toward putting the beds to sleep for the winter.

Please bring your own tools for weeding, trimming, raking, and whatever else you think should be done. Any time you can spare between 9am and noon.

We will provide coffee, donuts, water, and many thanks!

NOSFERATU AND JAY SPENCER

Sr. Warden and King of the Kilgen Jay Spencer will once again be accompanying the movie classic Nosferatu at the Palace Theater in Canton. The movie starts at 7:30, but you'll definitely want to be there early to see Jay rise up from the pit like the rock star he is!

We will once again have access to the balcony, though another group will be up there as well.

It's possible we'll have pizza or something on offer. More details to come.

ALL SOULS MASS, November 2

On Thursday, November 2nd, at 7:30pm, we will offer an All Souls Day Mass. We will remember parishioners we've lost in the last year, along with any others you would like to include. You can add names by calling the church office, or filling out the form at this LINK, under the Worship tab at our website.

PRAYERS REQUESTED

When you ask for someone to be added to the prayers, they will stay on our list for four weeks unless we hear from you. We maintain a continuing prayer list for those with ongoing needs. The email list below merges both lists.

Please be sure to let us know if someone should be taken off this list so we can focus on those in need.

Please pray for the people of Ukraine & Russia, that they would be kept safe and live in peace and safety.

And please also keep these friends and parishioners in your prayers:

PERIODIC PUZZLE

Fall has fallen upon us, and that means the trees around the church are putting on their magic act and turning all sorts of lovely shades. The north lawn looked particularly lovely this week, and that calls for a challenging puzzle for you to work on. You can find the puzzle HERE.

As always, you can choose your background color, number of puzzle pieces, and even set it to display just the edge pieces. Plus, you get a very affirming crowd reaction once you have completed it!

Also, if you want to take a trip down puzzle memory lane, you can go back and find the whole collection on our website at this LINK.

A few years ago, Bishop Hollingsworth asked me to become the Dean of the Central East Mission Area, which I gladly accepted. Essentially, it just entails being a liaison between the Bishop and the Clergy. Recently, the Dean from the Southeast Mission Area accepted a position in Willoughby. So now, Bishop Jolly has asked me to also be Dean of that Mission Area as well. A nice upside of that is I that am now Mother Mo's Dean, and will get to see her once in a while.

The position of Dean technically comes with the title "Very Reverend," though I never use it because, come on. And now I'm wondering if being a double Dean makes me the Very Very Reverend, which is kind of hilarious.

Anyway, the point is, I ask for your prayers now and then that I would complete the duties of these offices as God intends, for the benefit of the people and their clergy.

Faithfully,

Fr. George
