July 6, 2023
Dear Friends in Christ:
As we move through the parched, humid, smoky, loud month of July, I hope you are finding some peace and quiet. I know our neighbors have been determined to recreate the sounds of urban warfare while giving all the local pets PTSD with their constant fireworks. But they seem to be having fun.
Meanwhile, we've got some interesting musical notes <groan> to share, so read on read on in majesty.
On to the updates . . .

BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Our local Salvation Army is once again collecting school supplies for Massillon students who need help getting the tools to help them learn. You can help these students start the year off right by purchasing supplies and bringing them to church before noon on Sunday, July 23rd. We will then hand off all that you provide to help make a difference. The full list can be found HERE, as well as in your Sunday bulletins the next two weeks.

VOTE FOR US: JULY 10-AUGUST 10
Stark Community Foundation is celebrating their 60th anniversary by setting up six endowment funds for local non-profit organizations. We have submitted a proposal to fund a Chamber Music Series here at St. Timothy's, and our proposal has been accepted as a possible grant recipient.
The next step is to get everyone we know to vote for us each day between July 10th and August 10th. (The phrase, "Vote early; vote often" is actually encouraged in this case.)
Starting on July 10th, you can vote for our proposal each day at this LINK.
You can also vote using the QR code you'll see below and on the posters around church. All you need is a valid email address to confirm your vote each day.

NEW SANCTUARY PIANO
And in other music news, our sanctuary's 1905 Steinway piano has served us well for a long, long time. But with multiple cracks in the soundboard and aging parts, it's time to put it out to pasture. (By which I mean, trade it in.)
We are in the process of choosing a replacement and have a few estimates to consider. This Sunday after worship, a group of parish musicians are heading up to Cleveland to take some pianos for a test run.
After that, we'll know exactly how much we need to cover the cost. We have about $5,500 in hand, thanks to one generous parishioner and the donations given at last month's choir concert.
And in even more music news . . .

SPECIAL GUEST VOCALIST, July 23rd
We have a real treat coming to St. Timothy's at our 10am service on July 23rd. Soprano Melody Moore will join us to provide a dramatic offertory anthem. Melody has been a vocal student with our Organist Jim Mismas for the past 30 years, and (to paraphrase Johnny Cash) she's been everywhere, man.
And I have to say, it's not often that a review casually includes the phrase "sold-out appearance at Carnegie Hall."
We are most certainly in for a glorious offering to God that Sunday. I hope you can join us, and invite your friends and family.

GREAT GROOMING OF THE GROUNDS: Aug. 5, Sept. 16, & Oct. 28
We're back on our six-week rotation for tending to the gardens around the church. The next event will be Saturday, August 5th, from 9am to noon. As usual, any time you can spare that morning would be much appreciated, as we weed and clean things up. Put the other dates on your calendar and join us if you can to help make our beds and grounds look even better!

When you ask for someone to be added to the prayers, they will stay on our list for four weeks unless we hear from you. We maintain a continuing prayer list for those with ongoing needs. The email list below merges both lists.
Please be sure to let us know if someone should be taken off this list so we can focus on those in need.
Please pray for the people of Ukraine & Russia, that they would be kept safe and live in peace and safety.
And please also keep these friends and parishioners in your prayers:

PERIODIC PUZZLE
As I told you, there will be more photos from the Third Street Bed coming your way. The lilies have started to bloom, adding a splash of white to our July landscape. After a recent rain, they made for a particularly lovely puzzle, which you can find HERE.
As always, you can choose your background color, number of puzzle pieces, and even set it to display just the edge pieces. Plus, you get a very affirming crowd reaction once you have completed it!
Also, if you want to take a trip down puzzle memory lane, you can go back and find the whole collection on our website at this LINK.

I know summer has just started, but I am already excited for the fall, when we'll return to offering some kind of Christian formation on Wednesday nights. I'm still deciding between two books to guide our conversation, but they're both very good, and I think you'll be pleased.
Between now and then, I think summer is a good time to try on a couple Trial Use Liturgical Materials, which are intended for congregations to use on a trial basis and offer feedback at next year's General Convention. (I'll say more about that in the days ahead.) So, over the next couple months, you may find that the service looks a little different on some Sundays. No need to panic! When we're trying something new, I will alert you before we begin, and then welcome any feedback you might have afterward.
Meanwhile, get some rest, have some fun, and come to church when you can.
Faithfully,
Fr. George
