Dear Friends in Christ:

As our time giving some trial use to the trial-use liturgies comes to a close, I want to thank you for your patience and your input as we've tried these on. The overall reaction was fairly positive, and I now have some specific concerns I can bring to next year's General Convention. If you've got any more thoughts that you haven't yet offered, I'd love to hear them.

We've got just a few more services with these liturgies, and then we'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming.

On to the updates . . .

FIRST IMPRESSION COMMITTEE

Well that escalated quickly! Two weeks ago we put out the word that we were hoping to put together a committee to reassess our parking lot entrance, and within a couple days, we now have ten members on this committee. (Which. Is. Plenty.)

At Monday's Vestry meeting, we will put together a very specific charge for this committee, and then send them off with God's blessing, to do the work we have given them to do.

MUSICAL NOTES

This Sunday, August 27th, tenor John Pickle will offer his vocal talents at our 10am service. The following week, September 3rd, clarinetist Bruce Stebner will provide a musical offering at 10am. And then, on September 7th, our Choir rehearsal season returns, with their first appearance at worship on September 10th.

We are grateful for the special musical offerings that Organist Jim Mismas has arranged these past weeks. Looking forward, Choirmaster Andrew Bolden has mapped out an impressive schedule of anthems for this season, and invites any and all singers to come and join the Choir on Thursday, September 7th at 7pm.

SEATING OF THE BISHOP, September 9th

The final step in formally installing a new Bishop is to actually install her in the cathedra at the cathedral. The seating of the 12th Bishop of Ohio will take place at 11am, on Saturday September 9th, in Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland. Bishop Jolly has made a brief video explaining what will take place that morning, which you can find HERE.

I hope you'll consider making the trip north for this significant moment in our Diocese, or watching the event live on the cathedral's website.

GREAT GROOMING OF THE GROUNDS: Sept. 16, & Oct. 28

The next gardening day will be Saturday, September 16th, from 9am to noon. As usual, any time you can spare that morning would be much appreciated, as we weed and clean things up. Put the October date on your calendar as well, and join us if you can, to help make our beds and grounds look even better!

CONFIRMATION CLASSES, September 17

We are beginning a confirmation program for the younger people of the parish. An actual Episcopal Church Confirmation is tied more to the Bishop's schedule than to finishing a class. But, we've got a few younger folks who are approaching the appropriate age for confirming their faith, so it seems like the timing is right.

If you've got someone in your life who might be interested, come and talk to me as soon as possible. Our first meeting will be after the 10am service on September 17th, and we'll continue a basic schedule of every other week after that.

ANNUAL SPAGHETTI DINNER, September 21

Join us on Thursday evening, September 21st for our Annual Spaghetti Dinner!

Always a fun time, good food, and great company. Meal includes Spaghetti, Salad, Garlic Bread, and Refreshments. Plus, the ever-popular Raffle!

Adults: $8.00

Children under 6: $5.00

Family Maximum: $20

All are welcome!

Reservations are requested though not required. Call the church office at 330.833-3183

When you ask for someone to be added to the prayers, they will stay on our list for four weeks unless we hear from you. We maintain a continuing prayer list for those with ongoing needs. The email list below merges both lists.

Please be sure to let us know if someone should be taken off this list so we can focus on those in need.

Please pray for the people of Ukraine & Russia, that they would be kept safe and live in peace and safety.

Bob and Mary Ann Fulton will celebrate their anniversary on August 27th.

Be sure to send good wishes and thoughts to all who celebrate in the coming weeks!

PERIODIC PUZZLE

So, I'm sure my wife knows what these little purple guys in the planters by the parking lot doors are called. But I really just love the vibrancy of their color, and they'll always just be Little Purple Guys to me. You can find the puzzle HERE.

As always, you can choose your background color, number of puzzle pieces, and even set it to display just the edge pieces. Plus, you get a very affirming crowd reaction once you have completed it!

Also, if you want to take a trip down puzzle memory lane, you can go back and find the whole collection on our website at this LINK.

Next weekend, we observe Labor Day, which is an actual official holiday in the Episcopal Church. It even has it's own collect (which is how you know it's important!) In recognition of the day, we will offer a blessing of hands the Sunday prior.

If you are traveling over that weekend, please stay safe. If you are staying home, please also stay safe. And I want to be sure to leave you with that very fine collect for Labor Day, from page 261 of our prayer book:

Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another

that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide

us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but

for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for

our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of

other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out

of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns

with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

Faithfully,

Fr. George
