Dear Friends in Christ:

This past Sunday at our 10am service, we had a drummer join the choir for the Anthem. The building did not get struck by lightning, and all went well. You can find that Anthem HERE.

Then, as I was setting up for our monthly Taize' service on Tuesday, it suddenly dawned on me that there are no keys on our piano right now, as they being repaired. Fortunately, Choirmaster Andrew Bolden quickly taught himself how to play Taize' pieces on the organ, and guitarist Ellen Elder-Joseph joined in. It was actually a lovely service, which you can find HERE.

As a reminder, we offer this short and beautiful Taize' service the second Tuesday each month at 7pm, and you can join us in person or online. And, as a double reminder, you can always find any service you missed or want to see again at our youtube channel.

On to the updates . . .

STEWARDSHIP 2024: Rooted in Abundance

This year our theme is Rooted in Abundance, which emphasizes our connection to one another, and all the good that comes from those relationships.

We ask that you please return a pledge card (even if you don't want to make a financial pledge), and prayerfully consider the opportunities on the back of the card for sharing your time and talents with this parish, in which you are planted and grow.

You can also make a pledge online at our website at this LINK.

Thank you for your support of St. Timothy's and our ministry in Massillon.

NOVEMBER OUTREACH

  • We are once again collecting blankets during the month of November to offer to our neighbors this winter. Please consider bringing one (or more!) this month and place them on the stairs to the high Altar. We will bless them on November 26th before handing them off to be shared with those in need.
  • Our Thanksgiving Outreach looks a little different this year. Rather than collecting food to provide dinners for individual families, we will collect food to be distributed through the Salvation Army and our own food pantry. If you'd like to contribute, please bring in canned goods, pasta, cereals, etc. You can also make a financial contribution to this effort.

GREENING OF THE CHURCH, December 2

In order to get ready for the annual Community Candlelight Walk, we will gather the first Saturday in December to decorate the sanctuary and whatever else we can get done. If you can spare any time that day between 9am and noon, please come on over to help. There's a lot of heavy lifting involved, so please feel free to guilt family members into helping out.

Also on that day, a group of folks will be decorating cookies to hand out Sunday evening. So feel free to guilt the bakers in your life into helping that same day. See Sarah or Etta for more information on the cookie decorating.

MASSILLON COMMUNITY CANDLELIGHT WALK, Dec. 3, 5pm-7:30pm

A Massillon Tradition Since 2001

Treasure Massillon’s beauty and tradition as you stroll amidst luminarias and lovely architecture to enjoy musical entertainment at eight historic downtown churches and six local community partners. Enjoy the candlelighting ceremony and choral music at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Mary Church at the end of the event! All FREE for you to enjoy!

Walk to all or some of the churches and attractions in any order. Set your own pace. Maps will be available at every stop. Look for a printable map on the Community Candlelight Walk Facebook page. Luminarias will surround participating churches, and the CHARM neighborhood association will line historic Fourth Street with luminarias.

80 CANS OF SOUP

As a result of a recent brainstorm, we're taking a new approach to weighting the luminarias that will be placed around the church for the Candlelight Walk. Rather than fill the bags with sand--which we'd just throw away--this year we will weight them down with cans of soup, which we will then use to restock our food pantry. We need these to be the standard 10oz size (like Andy painted) so that they will fit in the bags.

So bring in a can if you can!

ADVENT RECITAL SERIES

We've changed things up a bit this year for our recital series. Our weekly worship service will happen at the normal time (12:10pm), and the recitals will follow at 1pm, with a reception afterward. This year's guest organists are:

Dec. 6 Bill Kendrick

Dec. 13 Linda Hanna

Dec. 20 Mario Buchanan

DECEMBER MOVIE NIGHTS, at 7pm

Each week in December, we'll show a movie in our parish hall at 7pm. You can find more details HERE, or on the posters around the church. The lineup includes:

Wed. Dec. 6 A Christmas Carol, 1951.

Wed. Dec. 13 The Bishop's Wife, 1947

Wed. Dec. 20 The Holly and the Ivy, 1952

Fri. Dec. 29 Becket, 1964

PRAYERS REQUESTED

When you ask for someone to be added to the prayers, they will stay on our list for four weeks unless we hear from you. We maintain a continuing prayer list for those with ongoing needs. The email list below merges both lists.

Please be sure to let us know if someone should be taken off this list so we can focus on those in need.

Please pray for the people of Ukraine & Russia, that they would be kept safe and live in peace and safety.

Please pray for peace in the Middle East, and protection for the innocent.

And please also keep these friends and parishioners in your prayers:

PERIODIC PUZZLE

For our Taize' service this week, I turned on the breaker labeled "Lights For Special Night Services," which illumines our east-wall window above the Altar. I decided it would make for a lovely puzzle, and so I made one. You can find the puzzle HERE.

As always, you can choose your background color, number of puzzle pieces, and even set it to display just the edge pieces. Plus, you get a very affirming crowd reaction once you have completed it!

Also, if you want to take a trip down puzzle memory lane, you can go back and find the whole collection on our website at this LINK.

As you saw in more than one item above, we're looking for canned goods and dry goods for our food pantry. We've had quite a lot of folks looking for help with food lately, so if you're able to bring in an item or two, it would be greatly appreciated. There are people in our neighborhood who are able to eat because of your ongoing generosity. So thank you!

Faithfully,

Fr. George
