September 7, 2023
Dear Friends in Christ:
St. Tim's September marks a return to firing on all cylinders, or some such metaphor. This coming Sunday sees the return of the chancel choir at our 10am services. Our monthly Children's Sunday also begins this week, thanks to Sarah Emmert. And on September 12th, our monthly second-Tuesday Taize' service resumes at 7pm. More details are available on our website calendar.
Lots of things are back, and I hope you'll be back as well.
On to the updates . . .

10AM COFFEE HOUR
Do you like to feed people? Do you like to bake? Do you like when people linger after the 10am service? Well we've got an opportunity for you!
As we've slowly moved back into being fully open, a few generous volunteers have been faithfully putting in tons of time and effort toward making our Coffee Hour a time to connect with one another, while enjoying snacks and refreshments.
Now we need new folks to step up and help this continue.
There 's sign-up sheet on the table in the parish hall. No need to lay out a big spread. We just need some cookies, some brownies, some cheese and crackers, whatever. Just a little plate of something for people to sit around tables and talk.
Please sign up for a Sunday and offer a little something some Sunday.

SEATING OF THE BISHOP, September 9th
The final step in formally installing a new Bishop is to actually install her in the cathedra at the cathedral. The seating of the 12th Bishop of Ohio will take place at 11am, on Saturday September 9th, in Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland. Bishop Jolly has made a brief video explaining what will take place that morning, which you can find HERE.
I hope you'll consider making the trip north for this significant moment in our Diocese, or watching the event live on the cathedral's website.

FIRST IMPRESSION COMMITTEE, September 10
The committee to reassess our parking lot entryway has been formed. Vestry authorized their actual duties, which you can find HERE.
The first meeting of the committee will be held after our 10am service this Sunday, September 10th. Please keep them in your prayers, and be sure to encourage them as they take on this important work on our behalf.

9/11 OBSERVANCE at CAK, September 11
Starting around 8:30am on September 11th, there will be a brief ceremony and prayer offered in remembrance of September 11th at CAK Airport, which will include a flyover. Fr. George has been invited to offer the prayer that morning.

GREAT GROOMING OF THE GROUNDS: Sept. 16, & Oct. 28
The next gardening day will be Saturday, September 16th, from 9am to noon. As usual, any time you can spare that morning would be much appreciated, as we weed and clean things up. Put the October date on your calendar as well, and join us if you can, to help make our beds and grounds look even better!

CONFIRMATION CLASSES, September 17
We are beginning a confirmation program for the younger people of the parish. An actual Episcopal Church Confirmation is tied more to the Bishop's schedule than to finishing a class. But, we've got a few younger folks who are approaching the appropriate age for confirming their faith, so it seems like the timing is right.
If you've got someone in your life who might be interested, come and talk to me as soon as possible. Our first meeting will be after the 10am service on September 17th, and we'll continue a basic schedule of every other week after that.

ORGAN CONCERT, September 24
On Sunday, September 24th, there will be a special concert by local organists to dedicate the new organ at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on the west side of town. Our dear friend, Dr. W. Robert Morrison has graciously donated the organ from his home to become the new worship-leading instrument in that congregation. (You can read about it HERE, unless there's a paywall.)
Dr. Morrison has been a big supporter of all things St. Timothy's, so if you're free that afternoon, it would mean a lot to him for you to be there.
The concert starts at 3pm, and includes Mark Thewes, Chad Pittman, and Jared Goldinger, as well as Dr. Morrison. Sure to be a joyous musical experience for all!

TRY TANK, September 30
So, the Diocese is trying a new thing called Try Tank. Or, actually, St. Barnabas in Bay Village is trying it on behalf of the Diocese. Basically, it's organized group brainstorming various challenges, like how better to use music and technology, and ways we might address food insecurity and gun violence. (I'm leading the workshop on music, so you might want to avoid that one.)
You can find more information HERE, and I hope you'll consider attending, just to experience Bellwether Farm if nothing else.

PERIODIC PUZZLE
With the Seating of the Bishop taking place on Saturday, this seems like the perfect flower to turn into a puzzle. You'll see it by the parking lot doors at church. Not only is it a lovely red flower, but get this . . . They're a dahlia variety called Bishop's Children! You can find the puzzle HERE.
As always, you can choose your background color, number of puzzle pieces, and even set it to display just the edge pieces. Plus, you get a very affirming crowd reaction once you have completed it!
Also, if you want to take a trip down puzzle memory lane, you can go back and find the whole collection on our website at this LINK.

As I said up top, there's a lot going on as we move into September. I hope you will join us when you can, and think of us when you can't. Together we are the body of Christ in this world, and your presence, thoughts, and gifts make God's love more real to our neighbors.
Faithfully,
Fr. George
