Dear Friends in Christ:

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you a restful day with good food and good conversations with good friends and family. In case you're too busy to read the entire newsletter right now, I want to start with the lovely collect for this day:

Almighty and gracious Father, we give you thanks for the fruits of the earth in their season and for the labors of those who harvest them. Make us, we pray, faithful stewards of your great bounty, for the provision of our necessities and the relief of all who are in need, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Please keep Bishop-elect Jolly in your prayers, as well as Rev. Diana Wilcox and Rev. Dr. Elaine Ellis Thomas, who endured intense scrutiny and discernment as candidates.

GREENING THE CHURCH, November 26th

This Saturday, we will gather the willing to decorate our sanctuary in advance of the Candlelight Walk and the Advent season. We'll do as much as we can with the help that we have. (More help = more beauty + fun.) A great opportunity to work off those Thanksgiving calories.

Join us from 9am to noon, or any amount of time you can spare that morning. We'll give you donuts and coffee and a lot of thank yous!

ADVENT RECITAL SERIES

We're thrilled to announce the return of our Advent Recital Series. The recitals will begin at 12pm, and our Wednesday services will start at 12:30pm for the four Wednesdays of Advent. We hope to also live stream these concerts online. This year's talented musicians are . . .

November 30: Organist Chad Pittman

December 7: Organist Loren Veigel

December 14: Tenor Michael Lewis

December 21: Organist Levi Muriuki

Recitals start at noon, with worship at 12:30pm, followed by refreshments.

MASSILLON CANDLELIGHT WALK RETURNS

After two years without, the annual Massillon Candlelight Walk is back! We are delighted to be one of the historic downtown churches who will open their doors to hundreds of visitors the evening of December 4th, from 5pm to 7:30pm.

Our choir will provide some lovely music, the rector will likely play piano for a bit, and we'll generally encourage folks to have a look around. At present, it seems the painters will have finished their work in the sanctuary by the time we open the doors for this wonderful event.

We need some folks to hand out refreshments and greet those coming through. If you're interested in helping out that night, please see Bob Schroeder.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Wednesday, December 7th at 7pm, John Ferris returns to St. Timothy's for his one-man performance of Charles Dickens', "A Christmas Carol." John has been doing this performance from memory for most of his life, as did his grandfather before him. It's always a delightful show, and we hope you can attend. Refreshments will follow.

CHRISTMAS POINSETTIAS

The ECW is once again offering Christmas poinsettias for sale to decorate our Altars this Christmas season. If you would like to purchase flowers as a dedication or memorial, you can do so at our website HERE, or by filling out a form available in the parish hall.

We ask for a contribution of $9.00 per plant. Please reserve your flowers before December 18th for inclusion in our memorial list.

THE PRIESTING OF MO MAJOR

On Thursday, December 15th, our Seminarian, who became a Deacon, will become a Priest! You're all invited to this festive and exciting event at 7pm, St. James Church, Boardman OH. If we plan well enough in advance, we can probably get some car pools together. Mark your calendars, and plan to attend if you can. Fair warning: she has asked Fr. George to deliver the sermon.

NEW OFFERING ENVELOPES

Hot off the press, our new offering envelope booklets have arrived. We no longer assign numbers to them, since not everyone uses them these days. But if you find it helpful to have a book of them, you can find them on the table in the parish hall, or we can mail one out to you. Of course, you can also support St. Timothy's at our website, using this secure LINK.

PRAYERS REQUESTED

When you ask for someone to be added to the prayers, they will stay on our list for four weeks unless we hear from you. We will maintain a continuing prayer list for those with ongoing needs. The email list below merges both lists.

Please be sure to let us know if someone should be taken off this list so we can focus on those in need.

Please pray for the people of Ukraine & Russia, that they would be kept safe and live in peace and safety.

Please pray for the victims of hate crimes and gun violence, and for their families, especially in Charlottesvile, VA, Colorado Springs, CO, and Chesapeake, VA.

And please also keep these friends and parishioners in your prayers:

BIRTHDAYS and ANNIVERSARIES

Celebrating birthdays over the next two weeks are Nancy Jobe (12/5), Debbie Coltrin (12/6), Tyler Strawder (12/6), and Paul Doxsee (12/7).

No anniversaries to celebrate, as far as I am aware.

Be sure to send good wishes and thoughts to all who celebrate in the coming weeks!

PERIODIC PUZZLE

The crackerjack Altar Guild has done it again! Even though I know it's coming each year, it still just stuns me to walk into church the weekend before Thanksgiving. And, of course, it makes for a fine puzzle for you. You can find the puzzle by clicking HERE.

As always, you can choose your background color, number of puzzle pieces, and even set it to display just the edge pieces. Plus, you get a very affirming crowd reaction once you have completed it!

Also, if you want to take a trip down puzzle memory lane, you can go back and find the whole collection on our website at this LINK.

Thanksgiving has come to act as the starting gun for the season of Christmas, even though that season doesn't technically start until Christmas Day. But Thanksgiving typically marks the start of decorating our homes and public spaces. And, with that in mind, I want to offer a few thoughts on decorating as you begin to haul the boxes down from the attic for the annual festooning festivities. You can find that short piece at this LINK. And Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Faithfully,

Fr. George
