Region Nine Welcomes New Community Development Director

Leah Petricka joins Region Nine as the Community Development Director. Her work includes community and economic development planning.
Leah was raised in Montgomery, Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota -Twin Cities, where she earned a degree B.S.in housing studies focus on business and finance and a minor in economics. Prior to joining Region Nine, she has worked as a city planner, a community development specialist, and executive director for a housing and redevelopment authority. Leah holds a certificate in economic development from Hamline University, is a certified housing development finance professional and is working on becoming a certified economic developer.

Region Nine Seeks Input for the CEDS
|

Region Nine has begun working on a new Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). The CEDS is a document that serves as a plan for future economic development throughout the region. The CEDS must be re-written every 5 years as part of Region Nine’s duties as an Economic Development District. Region Nine will be seeking stakeholder and citizen input from all nine counties starting in March. Stay tuned for announcements with meeting dates and times and other ways for you to help shape the economic development priorities in the region.

The Economic Resiliency Coordinator will assist in the administration of the revolving loan fund, as well as performing general economic development duties.
Work areas may include providing technical assistance to local units of government, businesses, and the general public on a variety of planning and development topics, such as revolving loan funds, economic development, workforce development, and community development. Work area may also include securing funding for programs through grant writing and the coordination, development, and implementation of programs and projects of importance to the region.

Value Added Producer Grants in Minnesota
The Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program helps agricultural producers enter into value-added activities related to the processing and marketing of new products. The goals of this program are to generate new products, create and expand marketing opportunities and increase producer income.
Grant and matching funds can be used for planning activities or for working capital expenses related to producing and marketing a value-added agricultural product. Examples of planning activities include conducting feasibility studies and developing business plans for processing and marketing the proposed value-added product.

School Design for Student-Centered Learning
With support from the Bush Foundation, 2Revolutions is currently offering grants to support school teams that are interested in implementing student-centered learning models within Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and the 23 Native nations that share the same geography.
Interested teams will have the opportunity to participate in a free, self-paced course that guides them through the process of dreaming up a new learning model. They will then have the opportunity to apply for funding and coaching to bring their design to life.
