A Message From Pastor

Greetings Church Family,

I hope you are enjoying the sunshine and the balmy temperatures that we are experiencing lately. This gives us a sense of hope that Spring may be around the corner.

This is a hard time of year for so many people: The Winter Blues. As we go about our days, please take a moment out of one of your days and send a card or a letter to someone who may be on your mind lately. Maybe give them a call. God may be putting that person on your heart for a reason. If no one has come to mind, ask God to place someone on your heart. We can all use a little cheering up occasionally. Pray for that person, as well. This doesn’t take much effort, but it could mean the world to someone.

I would like to leave you with this Scripture, Romans 15:13 says, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” This verse is my prayer for you. Don’t keep this to yourself. Share this with those you love. To God be the glory!

Lent is the Christian season of spiritual preparation before Easter. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. During Lent, many Christians observe a period of fasting, repentance, moderation, self-denial, and spiritual discipline. The Lenten season's purpose is to set aside time to reflect on Jesus Christ—to consider his suffering and sacrifice, life, death, burial, and resurrection. Many activities are scheduled here at COFS.

Volunteers Needed:

On the snowiest of days last week, we had a few angels looking out for us. They came armed with their snow shovels and snow blowers to make a path from our cars to the door. Did you know that when it snows and the plow trucks pile the snow around the mailbox, the mail isn't delivered? Four days into the buried mailbox, I went to the post office on Summit to retrieve the mail. Soon the wet snow turned to ice and the parking lot and sidewalks at church turned into skating rinks. On those days, Pastor Cathy and I did make it safely into the office. But the once pristine snow I saw looking out the office window is now an ugly slush. The snow and ice also played havoc on the roof. But that is a whole other story. Stay tuned!

On behalf of the Trustees, we are looking for volunteers to sign up on a two-week basis to help clean and sanitize the church. We are looking for three or four volunteers for each two—week period.

If you would like to signup, please contact the office. There is a list of what needs to be done each week. You don’t have to plan a time to come in together. You can work on your own. As each task is completed each week, you would simply put your initials next to the task(s) that you completed to let the others know what has been done already.

One of the Trustees or Pastor Cathy will meet with you to let you know where everything is and what needs to be done. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Cathy or our Trustee Chair, John Schmidt.
