The process will inform the Port’s strategy for a subsequent Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and Request for Proposals (RFP) expected to be issued in 2025.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the first in-person traffic management plan task force meeting for the Vincent Thomas Bridge (VTB) Deck Replacement project. The purpose of forming the Traffic Management Plan Task Force is to gather input from the public, stakeholders, and motorists on forming plans for detour routes once the bridge is fully closed for construction. WEST HARBOR TO FEATURE

The Port of Los Angeles will get an amusement park with a large observation wheel as part of West Harbor, the attraction being built to replace Ports O’ Call in San Pedro. With the project’s $155-million first phase, which will include restaurants, bars and shops, set to open late next year, its developers announced plans to expedite construction of the next phase, which calls for more food tenants as well as an array of outdoor pickleball and padel courts. | |
PORT OF LA RELEASES DRAFT SUBSEQUENT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT FOR PROPOSED WATERFRONT AMPHITHEATER | |
The Port of Los Angeles has released a Draft Subsequent Environmental Impact Report (Draft SEIR) to the 2009 San Pedro Waterfront EIS/EIR for the West Harbor Modification Project.
The proposed project involves the development of an approximate 6,200-seat, 100,000-square-foot-amphitheater on 2.1 acres of Port property leased to West Harbor. The proposed project includes the development of a nearby 2,600-stall parking lot in San Pedro, which would be available to theatergoers and other waterfront visitors.

SAN PEDRO BAY PORTS GIVE QUARTERLY CLEAN AIR ACTION PLAN UPDATE NOV. 21

The ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles will give a progress update on the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. The meeting will include updates on the 2023 emissions inventory, the Technology Advancement Program and grants, and the status of technology feasibility assessments.
The meeting will be held at Long Beach City Hall, Bob Foster Civic Chambers, 411 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, 90802. Proceedings will be livestreamed – participation is in-person only. PORT OF LOS ANGELES AWARDED $412 MILLION GRANT FROM U.S. EPA FOR
ZERO-EMISSION TRANSFORMATION

The Port of Los Angeles has been awarded an unprecedented $412 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Clean Ports Program to support the zero-emission (ZE) transition at the nation’s busiest trade gateway. The Port and its private sector partners will match the EPA grant with an additional $236 million, bringing the total new investment in ZE programs at the Port of Los Angeles to $644 million.On Tuesday, October 15, members of the Los Angeles City Trade, Travel and Tourism Committee advanced an agreement for a zero-emissions switcher locomotive demonstration project at the Port of Los Angeles. | |

FINAL PLAN: FULL CLOSURE FOR 16 MONTHS TO INSTALL NEW DECK

California transportation officials called for closing the heavily traveled, mile-long Vincent Thomas Bridge for 16 months to replace the span’s road deck, according to the projects final environmental document. The full closure proposal was among several options the California Department of Transportation rolled out for residents when the project was first announced more than a year ago. Caltrans will host open houses prior to construction, which is now expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026. | |
