CARGO NUMBERS, DISCUSSES GLOBAL SHIPPING TRENDS WITH APM TERMINALS EXECUTIVE LEO HUISMAN

Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka was joined at the Port’s March 18 cargo briefing by Leo Huisman, APM Terminals’ Regional Managing Director, Americas. Huisman oversees 14 container terminals in eight countries across North and South America, including APM Terminals Pacific at the Port of Los Angeles.

In this historical documentary commissioned by the Port of Los Angeles and directed by local filmmaker Jack Baric, The Smell of Money brings the once-bustling fishing and canning industry of the Los Angeles Harbor Area back to life for 30 memorable minutes. The film premiered on March 17 as part of the DocSunday program of the LA Harbor International Film Festival and is now viewable on the Port's YouTube channel.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass today hosted U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan with Congresswoman Nanette Barragán and Councilmember Tim McOsker where they highlighted upcoming federal investments in zero-emission port equipment and infrastructure, air quality planning projects and enhanced efforts to protect the health of communities near U.S. ports.

PORT OF LA AND CALTRANS SET TO BEGIN WORK ON $130 MILLION STATE ROUTE 47 INTERCHANGE PROJECT

The Port of Los Angeles and California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will start work this month on a $130 million transportation project to reconfigure a major interchange at State Route 47 (SR 47)/Vincent Thomas Bridge and Front Street/Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro.

 

The interchange reconfiguration will reduce travel times, alleviate congestion and improve motorist and pedestrian safety at this highly traveled roadway juncture.

THE LOS ANGELES BOARD OF HARBOR COMMISSIONERS APPROVES 30-YEAR LEASE EXTENSION FOR BATTLESHIP IOWA

The Battleship Iowa will remain in its current spot in the Los Angeles harbor for another three decades — and its operators have set their sights on creating a veterans park and multipurpose community building on adjacent land.


The Los Angeles harbor commission approved a lease extension for the iconic World War II battleship on Friday, March 15. The lease, which was initially set to expire in May 2027, will now run through March 2057, pending Los Angeles City Council approval.

The Port of Los Angeles is now accepting applications for its 2024 Summer Internship Program through March 29. College-enrolled student interns gain hands-on experience working at one of the world’s busiest ports, with assignment opportunities in various fields such as engineering, marketing, real estate and more.

 

The program is open to current graduate and undergraduate students with interest in on-the-job skill building and networking in a dynamic environment.
